Default article about Charlie Sheen

I first saw and liked him in Platoon in 1986.
I hope that his family can help him with whatever is going on.

Charlie Sheen: Wild Boy, Troubled Man
The life and times of Charlie Sheen is a serious issue for us all.

I hope Mr. Sheen will find himself on Terra firma soon

This last year or 2 like he's been looking quite rough, or aging.

Reminds me of this old saying-
"rode hard & put away wet "
It's a cowboy term for not taking care of your horse properly - wears em out and breaks em down...

It's like he's living his TV show character, the unrated version

Mari...Yep...I was going to post something similar and say "what say you?"

Saw the interview last night (20/20?) and felt a little sick about it.

Hard to say when drugs are involved, but....

Seemed to me that the media took advantage (I guess this is no surprise to ANYONE). Sure, he is a celebrity and he wanted to talk. But, to me, a five minute blurb (or rant as the case might be) might have been more appropriate considering he is likely unstable right now. How long was that interview??? AT least 30 mins...perhaps an hour. I was cringing half the time....turning away at times. I really didn't like to see the kids there and have heard that they may have been removed from the home.

I DID hear him say that his father "judges" him and it is likely that he is not open to getting help from him.

It is all very sad, because this is probably the person in the best position to help him.

Jo Mar...Interesting, wise and sad expression. Makes you think.

Hi,
I have not watched any of the tv interviews. I did hear a small bit from the seven minute radio interview (rant) that caused him to get fired.

His father has helped him in the past and is probably helping him again now.

Here is father Martin Sheen and brother, Emelio Estavez talking about Charlie Sheen:

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/417417...entertainment/

Quote:
"If he had cancer, how would we treat him?" Sheen asked. "This disease of addiction is a form of cancer. You have to have an equal measure of concern and love and lift them up and so that's what we do for him."

The "Apocalypse Now" actor called his son "an extraordinary man" and said that after years of dealing media interest about his son's troubles he's become used to the questions. Estevez agreed, saying he's learned to cope.
Martin Sheen has suffered from alcoholism. He nearly died during filming of Apocalypse Now in 1977.

Default Charlie Sheen seems to have some narcissistic traits

Oh my my.
I listened to the first three minutes of Charlie Sheen's 7 minute radio rant. He sounded exactly like someone I know who is undx'd bipolar but who also seems to have some narcissistic personality traits.
Charlie had tested clean for that interview.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narciss...ality_disorder
Diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV-TR = 301.81)

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth edition, DSM IV-TR, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental disorders, defines narcissistic personality disorder (in Axis II Cluster B) as:[1]

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
~Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
~Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
~Believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
~Requires excessive admiration
~Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
~Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
~Is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
~Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

I was struck by how much he sounded like the person I know in real life -- full of himself, thinks he is smarter than everyone else, lacks compassion, . . .

Charlie Sheen may die if he stays in denyal about his addiction. I hate to say this, but you can see it in his face that there is something wrong.

I hope that he servives this. I like Charlie Sheen. I hope that God intervenes in his life.

I was a alcoholic for about 9 years trying to drown these anxieties, and I stoped drinking years ago. I'm much better off without alcohol. I sure did love it though.

I hope that Charlie shakes this problem, because at this point,it could go either way, life,or death. BF

I try to stay away from these media blitzes (think: watching car crashes), but I've caught bits and pieces because the media has made that unavoidable.

My brother told me about some of the things said in the 20/20 interview... All I could say was, "wow, he sounds like dad."
Mari, like your friend, my dad is undx BP and most likely has a narcissistic personality disorder. He's also a severe alcoholic.

I hope that things turn out alright for him, but it's ultimately up to him. Everyone's rock bottom is different- unfortunately for some that's death.
