is it allergies or sinus stuff? do you get a sore throat? swollen glands? what are your symptoms?
bizi |
this one really seems like your basic cold. i had been very tired few days before but really developed friday night/sat morning.
started with lots of itchy sneezy burny stuff that could have been irritation allergies but well past that now. and yes sore throat and now my glands are swollen both sides no fever but temp elevated. i started the echinacea all of saturday already which was the first day of the throat/nose sx ... sigh. ~ waves ~ |
oh you are sick, am sorry hate the swollen glands sore throat....do they sell mucinex there? It has been really helpful to break up secretions in my chest that I did not even know were there.

My cold is wrapping up / on its way out. It was a long two weeks and the first week was the worst. Probably I should have rested more. I hope for you that your cold is here for a very short duration. Feel better. We are all deserving of health and goodness in our lives. M. |
Dear Mari
thanks.:hug::hug: i am glad to hear you are feeling better. :):):) Sorry that it dragged out... sign that you are very run down, no surprise with lack of sleep and all the things you've had to deal with. it all adds up. :o Your doc is right to worry about body's response to chronic sleep loss. Even if his solutions are not always up your alley, i am glad he sees the need and tries to look after you. I hope at some point between him and your tdoc you will make some headway with the sleep thing. Echinacea boosts immune response and, taken at first sx, can shorten duration of cold.... but only by a few days. only caveat is it does interact with many meds and unpredictably so, so you either have to know what you're doing, ask a doc, or keep the period of use to <= 1 week. i just know after a 4 day weekend i can't call in sick tuesday so i'm gonna have to go in whatever shape i am in. i am just grateful it is no longer freezing temps outside... work will suck if i am still all stuffed up and half dizzy like this but, at least the commute exposure will not cause me to get pneumonia. ~ waves ~ |
Waves,
Sometimes I forget about your commute. I wonder how much one risks infection by commuting the way you do? I forget why I don't take Echinacea. I think it was contra-indicated for chronic fatigue (mostly over that now I think) and later for my blood type --if one were into that sort of thing. I didn't think to take C or zinc until a few days into the cold and then I did not bother with them. I think C is good to take. My accupuntust (can't spell tonight or most nights) thinks that at the very least every day people should take as much C as their bodies can stand and a good probiotic. She used to say that they both help the body ward off infections. Today is Sunday. I hope you rest and feel better by Monday and then well enough to be able to deal with work on Tuesday. Quote:
Tdoc could work with me IF i did her program. Her program is that I first meditate 5 minutes a day and see her every other week. I can't do either one right now because . . . . .well because. I should go to ged soon. Take care. M. |

i use bromhexine... and forgot to buy it! :o:eek: it works - and in comes in pills (most everything here comes in little packets you dissolve in water and have to drink, aspirin, vitamins, everything - and with fake sweeteners - YUCK). well, we have other herbal products - grindelia based, propolis-based, etc that are balsamic and help clear the chest if need be. at least hold me till tuesday when the pharmacy reopens. i am taking my coffee with very little milk and eucalyptus honey instead of sugar. ;) ~ waves ~ |
guaifenesin
My pack of Mucinex DM has Guaifenesin 600 mgs and Dextromethorpan 30 mgs in each tablet
Instructions say take two tablets -- no more than four tablets in a 24 hours period. This is the extended release version. Maybe your Vicks is close to what we have. M. |
Thanks for the info Mari.
I don't recall the amts, but i had looked up the therapeutic dosages when i was looking for guaifenesin and the local Vicks (new! with guaifenesin! woohoo! splash label) had nowhere near the right amount (it was like 1/10th). wouldn't decongest a rat if you ask me. plus i don't want the other junk in it (DXM). for the chest bromhexine works for me. it is also a mucolytic. i'll keep an eye out for guaifenesin... things change. i wanted to eventually try it for general purposes. ~ waves ~ |
