Default Will's Speech evaluation

Will's Evaulation, he is behind at a 50 %. Which is 3.0 below average.
I can't remember the exact word we use. But this isn't a good thing.
If it was a psychological evaluation it would mean he was moderately
handicapped. But I personnelly know he is brighter than that.

He is between 1 and 11, (I think that was what it said) And its not
making sense now. In the words and sounds. Its meaning that he
is 1 year to I think she said 2 years.

Then the next was a little higher but not much. I do know it was starting
at a 2 level to 2.5. Which was the recognition of words and things like
that.

She believes he has apraxia. Which I have been wondering. And I'm really
not sure what to think, because medicaid will only do a 45 minute x 1 time
a week visit.

I think we will be trying to get more time at school in the fall. And maybe
the local college in the fall.

Dear Donna,

It's good that you gained some information from the evaluation.
I hope that you can supplement medicaid by getting more time at school and the local college.

Heart

Donna,
My grandson was diagx with Apraxia also. He is pre-school/kindergarten.

So bright, never forgets a thing, but the speech was so long in coming and still not the area to keep up with Kindergarteners. He has therapy at school 30 minutes or so 2x's a week, plus the teachers work with him.

Some days I have a harder time then others with words. He just had his tonsls and adnoids out, so hoping his ear infections may have been part and going to clear up now.

It is the ability or inability of the braing to get the language from the brain to mouth properly.
I had a late talker, now 28, but he did talk finally and well, but is very quiet person.
Hope that you can find great results and good program.

I'm sure therapy will help... I know a bunch of kids that had trouble with language and now they talk perfectly

Will's Dad, my son Devin. Said very few words at 3. But when he was started in Developmental Preschool he was in speech and did well.
He was understood, and started saying words well soon. His speech
is different than Will's its just one difference, he had more speech at
a younger age than Will has so far.

SO this is something we will work on.

Donna,

I'm glad that the evaluation is out of the way, and hope that he can benefit from the 45min weekly visits. Are you able to get a written report?

My little brother had to do a lot of speech therapy when he was younger. He's 22 now and turned out great! He's very smart and has no signs of speech problems anymore.
