Okay, I think someone was leading us to this doctor for Derrick.
We had a fantastic Pediatrician that I hated leaving. But we knew it would happen one day. Just hadn't expected so early. But it did at 18 almost 19. But that is another story. Today, we went back to see him, about the allergies. I'm not sure if he saw them. But I'm kind of guessing he did. He asked if the zyrtek and claritin combo were helping. THis had been my decision to leave him on both for a while. And if the spray was. And wrote prescriptions for all. Then the most amazing conversations started. First we talked about Derrick's neuro, who as you know we adore. Well it turns out he knows him well. And has a high regard for him too. He then started talking about both IU and Riley neuro's that I knew the names. But then He brought up Dr. Hale and explained to Derrick what he looked like, and said you are probably to young for him. (Bald as a cue ball is the description, and bright is the word for his head) But I said, I know him well, he was my neuro. And he is fantastic. And I know a few years ago he was practicing with his son. And we had the most amazing discussion about him, then another, then one that did a book on lennox gannox? spelling, but its one of the worst seizure problems there is. Then he brought up one of the most Admired and known neuro's at IU right now. Started talking about him. Well I knew all about him too. But kept going back to how lucky Derrick was to have His neuro. To make sure we continued to go to him. Such a amazing doctor. I hope he waits a while to retire. Donna |

Derrick and I had a talk about his future.
Guess his teachers have decided that he should consider staying in the Vet and animal business. So he is really considering it. I believe they really got through to both him and his job coach. And he also told me some more things the Doc said. Like Other girl, and You. Just don't work together good. And Derrick has to get along with and work well with someone. To do a good job. I believe this is the burnt of the problem. So what happened on Saturday was the best thing that could have happened to him. I recognized the girl, but don't know her name. But she made a comment to him that really stuck. If That girl treated me the way she is treating you I wouldn't have stayed the first day. I would have quit. So he finally realizes its not all his fault. He now is trying to find out if he can get a good reference. But we don't know if he will have another day of work. Assuming it will be last day on Saturday. But he has forgotten, he has one more paycheck coming either way. So if he can fill one of his boring hours. And I think he knows what he is going to do. Then I think his days are going to be better. Especially when he gets a new job. Whatever he choses. But now he has faith in himself again. What a great set of teachers. Donna |

It sounds like you had a nice talk!
It can be very reassuring to have another person witness how you're being mistreated... When I was 16 I had a social worker from children's services. She was also working with my brother. One day she said to me, "wow, they're really awful to you." Later she tried to get me to get emancipated. Anyways, I finally felt like it was their problem- not mine. It was a real relief! It's nice to hear that Derrick has great teachers. I'm sorry he won't be able to stay at the vet's because of that girl, but I'm sure that you and his teachers will help guide him in the right direction. |

You know, both the SPCA & the Humane Society have a wide variety of volunteer positions that offer great experience. 3 hours a week, so even with a job he might be able to keep it up.
It might work out better if you could go in & talk with them first, so between you you could come up with the best two or three matches for him. I am so, so glad this path is revealing itself! |
