maybe you can write them separately and then sort them want to do verse need to do and then prioritize them.
I don't know, sympathize with you.

yes... need to order things and break some down into steps/parts

Dear Bizi,

i don't want to do any!!!

i need to do all! :Bawling:

how's that???? :o:D

ok, seriously though. i know what you mean. ;) i will find some way to order them/separate them. cardio followup isn't even on there... that and the teaching inquiry will probably have to go first. the calendar is for christmas so i need to start on that...etc.

i can maybe use Covey's important vs. urgent quandrants (you draw a rectangle, and then divide in half vertically and horizontally to make 4 smaller rectangles (quadrants).

the columns are important, not important
the rows are urgent, not urgent.

so the quadrants are:

important + urgent
important + not urgent
urgent + not important
not important + not urgent

and you write your tasks in the quadrants accordingly. then you do them in this order:

first, the important urgent ones.
last, not important not urgent ones.

the other two you have to alternate to keep up with deadlines, while not deferring important stuff indefinitely.

have you ever read Steven Covey?

it's a very business-oriented thing, but it helps in all areas.

-------------- and then there's the depressed person's guide to doing anything method.....

sometimes, once i manage to get the stupid list written, i just pick a (not-so-random) task - perhaps the least intimidating or a very short one, and do it. and keep doing that. when the list gets shorter, it tends to get less intimidating.

the big tasks, i am going to have to break down. especially the boxes in the cellar, and the clothes. those could take days, and i will need to do them in small increments just for sanity. there will be decisions (AGGHHH) and i get emotional about getting rid of things.

thanks for reminding me i do need to "process" that list more, Bizi.;)

Dear Waves,

I grouped some things in your list into categories. This is probably how I would do my own list. Covey's Quadrants work conceptually, but I like your depressed person's list as a way to describe what actually happens -- start with something bugging me, move on to something easy, consider the biggest task (organizing) and drop it to return to it later, . . .

Here is my grouping of your list:

1. Health
a. Following up on dental work-- see another dentist for price comparison, or just go forward for less hassle
b. Cardio followup/s

2. Christmas Tasks:
a. Creating calendar
b. Considering Christmas cards

3. Getting out for walks.

4. Clothing Organization:
a Switching out summer clothes for winter
b. Getting rid of clothes that don't fit and have barely a hope of fitting again ever

5. Sorting out paperwork especially medical/labs etc.

6. Organizing:
a. Cabinets where i have shoved things so i can make room to bring up my other CD's/other stuff i miss
b. Repack boxes in the garage which have "caved in" from being half unpacked and still stacked.
c. Possibly discard some things.

7. Review the dates for the next teachers training and call the school(s) for information regarding availability/registration.

I did this list not to mess with your head or to offer any suggestions. I provide an example of how I sometimes do my lists.

My CBT psychologist (a professor) used to post his list with due dates out side his office and cross out / check off things as he got them done. He felt satisfaction in seeing things checked off. He also wanted others in the hall aware of his progress. I don't want to see them any more after I have completed them. After they are done, they are deleted or replaced with new items.

Hi waves

You sound like you are breaking your chores down to bite size pieces. I hope you do not let all you have to do, overwhelm you. If you are doing just a little at a time, and keep at it, soon you will be finished. I have some projects like you do that I keep putting off. You are an inspiration to me to get a move one. I have a lawyer appt. on the 1st. which I am real nervous about. I get anxious when I have too many things on my plate too. Have a good thanksgiving waves. I hope your holiday is surround by people who love you. You are in my prayers. ginnie

Waves

Please take the health things first, and the Class things second. Or together.
These are your most or pressing things.

Then if you really want to do the christmas thing, do it next or with the
class thing.

health, class and christmas

Hi.

Thank you both, Mari and Donna, for your input.

Ginnie, i'm sorry to say i haven't done a darn thing yet but put the list that was haunting my mind into this thread. :o

Mari, other examples and ideas on list processing/organization are always good to have. your CBT psychologist was brave. only reason i think i could put this list here is that i don't feel like it will be judged. i couldn't leave it lying around the house. let alone put deadlines on things and tell anyone! i guess it was a way of making himself feel like he had to answer to himself - and others - for a commitment made. when i try to give myself a deadline on these things, the pressure often overwhelms me. make it public and embarrassment gets added to pressure.

Donna, don't worry, the cardio stuff is all booked already. as for the dental, he said it would hold till new year and it is probably too get it all done before Christmas as i think the office closes for a weekish. i'll try to figure out about the second opinion though, so i can decide, and be set to go, with one or the other dentist in January.

it is true i need to call about the class but i am still very anxious about that. i think first i need to get more active in some way, with the other things. get to feel more "with it" by doing things that are less of a big deal - where i don't feel i have to make an impression. like maybe take walks to the local stores to shop instead of my dad going every time.

Now the calendar, if i don't start that immediately, i won't get it done. it has to be printed and the print shop closes not to mention is a nightmare it is a hole in the wall and crammed as days get close to Christmas. last year i started the calendar in summer. i also made a worksheet then, for all the data (holidays, seasons, moons etc, DT/ST), and i may have pulled some of the dates for this year while i was at it, which will help me. but i still have to edit the actual document, choose the photos to use, fix them up in pshop... time consuming. the nice thing is at this point all i do everything on my laptop, all i move are my fingers. heh.

i have a box full of cards that i brought over from the US and keep not using, including some Christmas cards. but currently we are having problems with overseas mail so i am reluctant to send when people are likely to receive them at easter or not at all. i'll still feel bad ... as usual. :( i wish i weren't so darn bad about it. i love christmas cards. i like picking them and writing them. and i like getting them. of course, i get fewer and fewer - probably because others don't get them from me and think i don't care. :( reality is i try, sometimes i even start, but i screw up the process. :( this year it won't be my fault but... it usually is.

I have to decide if I'm going to do christmas cards.

I am thinking about doing a whole different kind, different kind of year.

Dear Waves,
Are you still in the clear about migraines? . . . I am hoping that you remain free of them.

Your post about your agenda showed perhaps that you are in a good place to think about things beyond the migraines. Some days we (I ?) go to survival mode. Other days we can formulate plans. I was happy to see this list post.

I guess I'm saying that the fact that you posted the agenda is wonderful.

Mari
