I found this by accident in the Astronomy Picture of the day archive.

An Atlas of the Universe

In this atlas,I found out that the Orion's Belt constellation is one of the closest star groups to our Sun in the Milky Way Galaxy. Then you can keep finding out more, and more about where things are in the Universe. Fascinating!!! BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi, Steve,

That is cool. From Orion I can find Taurus. That is all I could do. When we were children, my mom liked to talk to us about the stars but I forgot a lot since then.

Hi Steve and gang

Anyone watch the science channel and see the episode with the up to date explaination of the higgs boson? I thought it was fantastic. ginnie

Brokenfriend 03-24-2013 01:44 AM

Hi ginnie. I wish that I had the Science Channel. I did see something on the news about the higgs boson, the subatomic particles found in a Particle accelerator device in Switzerland. Fascinating!!! So there's a subatomic particle world.

With the discovery of subatomic particles,I hope that they can help us with Mental Health Issues in balances of particles, and other things. I hope that stem cells will also help in the future. The more they know about extremely small particles, the better it should be for us down the road. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi BF,

Yes, this higgs may be the route on how particals (all others) get their mass. What blew me away is that there may be more, (5) We have not gotten to the engery needed to go that far yet. The LHC is not up to full power yet. In 2015 when it comes back on line, it will be even more powerful. I think we are just on the tip of understanding this universe. Reading a book by Michael Kaku a theoretical Physics guy. He is talking about this, in conjunction with hyperspace. ( or extra dementions involving string theory) Keep those fantastic pictures coming. I am glad I am alive to see what is out there. 50 years ago, we had no real Idea of the universe and all its complexity. I remember in High school, we knew the atom, that was it. Wow, has there been a leap in knowledge.
Yes these particles may be able to help humans one day in ways we can only dream of now. You are a fighter Steve, you fight for your health. You are great inspiration to others to have hope. ginnie:hug::grouphug::)

Hi Mari

Keep looking toward the heavens, you never know what you will see. There was a meteor shower over the east coast last week. Lots of folks caught it with their phones. Have a good day. ginnie:hug:

I saw that same bright moon last night. Beautiful and comforting.

Dear Steve,

like this picture of flying over the earth at night.

The music is Freedom Fighters/ "Two Steps From Hell"

Quote:

Explanation:
Many wonders are visible when flying over the Earth at night. A compilation of such visual spectacles was captured recently from the International Space Station (ISS) and set to rousing music.
Passing below are white clouds, orange city lights, lightning flashes in thunderstorms, and dark blue seas.
On the horizon is the golden haze of Earth's thin atmosphere, frequently decorated by dancing auroras as the video progresses.
The green parts of auroras typically remain below the space station, but the station flies right through the red and purple auroral peaks.
Solar panels of the ISS are seen around the frame edges.
The ominous wave of approaching brightness at the end of each sequence is just the dawn of the sunlit half of Earth, a dawn that occurs every 90 minutes.
