Default A Little Extra for the Holiday

I called the local food pantry the other day to inquire about donating some food and ended up adopting a family for Christmas. I got a mother and two children, a girl 3 and a boy 9. They gave me a list of items the family requested which proved to be rather minimal. I was afraid my H was going to complain but he got into the spirit of the program and helped me shop for the family. I told my mom and sister who live in Florida about it and they are sending money to buy gifts. My office mate has a 4 year old. She is bringing in the toys her son doesn't play with anymore for the little girl. So, this has turned into quite a program and the people should have a nice Christmas as a result.

Yesterday I was shopping in the little store where I work and bought the mother a sweater with a beaded decoration. It is a little frivolous but every woman needs a pretty outfit for the holidays. Then the practical side of my mind took over and we got them a gift card to the grocery store.

We are having more fun providing for this family that we do not know and will never meet than we ever did when we bought things for our extended family. I'm going to set money aside every month and maybe next year we can adopt a bigger family. I am so lucky to have a steady, secure job. It is time I paid some back.

This is always the best kind of giving.

enjoy yourself.

Derrick and I have already put in some toys for tots toys this year.

And I'm getting ready to work on a family I know that can use the help.
