Trigger for medical.....
.................Wes is doing GREAT!! The gosh-darned awful pain was gone immeadiately. He just hurts in the incisions and his shoulders now. He even got up and got ready for work before he remembered he has to stay down this week. LOL He's so happy. But the percecets don't touch the pain at all. What did finally work? 2 extra strength tylenol with a benedryl. Go figure. The surgeon and the anesthesiologist were both convinced nothing would work for his pain because it's been so high for so long, the fact he was allready on percecet and the fact it took enough sedetive to knock out and elephant to put the kid out. And tylenol w/ benedryl works. SHEESH. I think docs need better rx training. I think the kid may just have an allergy or something to the harder pain meds. He really is doing so well. I was expecting a huge manic episode and he is just the opposite. So laid back and mellow but ready to be well and take on the world. Cross your fingers for us that it stays this way. I am so relived. |

Wonderful news!!!!!!
Glad the x-tra strength tylenol and benedryl worked, I think I may try that for my neck, because the percocet aren't working, even tried Aleve yesterday, that helped just a bit. Crossing my fingers as you asked and sending prayers for a speedy recovery for Wes. Hugs, Nikko |

Dear Bear,
Happy to hear that tylenol and benedryl are working. However, if they do not do so in the future, you might consider asking the doctor about Oxycontin. It is much more potent than Percocet and, in my experience, doesn't make you "nod" the way Percocet can. It also leaves your cognition clearer. (If you can afford it, get the "brand name". I have found there to be a significant difference in quality between brand name and generic.) The best doctor that I have ever known once told me a story about asthmatics. When the broncial dialaters came along, the first thing that would happen to life-long ashmatics after using them was that they would fall into a profound sleep. Their bodies had been fighting for so long to drag air past swollen membranes in their lungs that they were exhausted. The only thing that kept them awake in their exhaustion was the necessity of continually fighting to draw breath. Once they no longer had to lead the fight, they took the rest that they had been needing all their lives. This may be analogous to Wes's case.
