When a child has any kind of problem with behaviour in school They are given the emotional title if the need accomodations. If they aren't autistic. THere are some other area's they can fit into. But usually a school will want this title. Donna:hug::grouphug: |
Hi, TidBitz,
That is good that the school is helping her. It is good to hear that she is able to step out of class. M |
I was born before they knew much of anything about children's disorders. I almost failed the first, second, and failed the third grade. I couldn't read in front of the other students. Then I failed the 8th grade, and my parents asked for me to go to military school. I said that I would, and I was put into a reading class, science, math, history, and all of the other classes. I started making A's,and B's in my classes, but had a panic attack in the large mess hall(cafeteria). I went there for another half of a year with panic attacks.
I'm skipping to the present. I'm now diagnosed with OCD,panic disorder, bipolar, and etc. I hope that you can communicate to her over a period of time, and that she will understand over a period of time. The help that they have now for children, they didn't have in the sixties, and seventies for me. It wasn't till 1980 that they admitted that mental health challenges existed by opening a Panic Clinic. Other help was in the works from there. Brokenfriend:hug::hug::hug: |
Brokenfriend,
I did not realise that it was the 80's were the first awakening of this, that is why my mother didn't know how to handle me. I too had problems throught school but was able to pass with 70's due to the school was not allowed to fail me, my learning was being out on the streets and logical thinking. Trin today, knows that she has to take her meds in order to concentrate and be able to control her emotions, I am hoping by her teens she can learn to control through therapy. Growing up I felt alone and unimportant. Now I want to help as many as I can and help the unaware people understand that we are not some kind of virus or what they would call crazy. So far the people I have talked to don't realise that it's a brain disorder that has to do with our emotions. I tell them that just because we have to fight harder doesn't mean we are not just as human. |

Then around 1980,my dad said that they opened a clinic called the Phobia Clinic, and it sounds like they are helping people with what you have. So I went there to get some help. Then in the 80's I heard about Attention Deficit Disorder from a person in a church prayer group. Then I heard other things about mental health disorders. Then in 1990,I was diagnosed with OCD. This explained allot to my parents, and I. I felt like I was the only person in the world with these kinds of problems in the 70's,because no one talked about these kinds of problems at all. I felt so alone too. Thank you for your input. With progress in continuation, there probably will be more help for your daughter in the future also. Lots of factual information about mental health issues is coming forth continually. They have come along way since 1980,but they still have allot of research to continue. BF:hug::hug::hug: |

IDEA which is the law that governs the school laws for schools, was first developed and put into place in 1976. Students with disabilities were taught in separate schools and many were left out in the cold still to a degree. Its called the Individual Disability Education Act. Its supposed to be updated every 8 hours I believe it is. The last time it was updated was 2004. Please look into NAMI, for yourself. And find a support group with other children for her. This will help a lot too. Donna:hug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: |
Ok Dona thank you and I think I have found a way for her to do what she likes to do (anything with animals) as well as stay busy.
I have a 55 gallon fish tank set up in my living room and have been working on breeding shrimp (food) and Snails, I don't have room for this really (1 breeding tank set up so far), So I am going to move my 4 year old into my 8 year olds room, and use her room wich actually is an office into a get away room. I will have all tanks except for 55g set up in this room and teach Trin how to breed and raise specific things. Any time she needs a break from life she can go in there and be productive. |
