My own son blocked me

Facebook seems like an invasion of my privacy. All of a sudden I have relatives and friend wanting to be my friend. By allowing a friend in both of us are able to look through lives and organizations we are members of which I find invasive.

To a degree you are right Becky.

And by the way welcome.

But in my case its more that. I have some friends that I've known
from all over the states. That I can't talk to anywhere else anymore.

So I talk to them there.

Facebook for work

Waves,

I was asked to join myspace and then facebook for work.
Years ago we put up visual art, audio, and text for a literary magazine.
That is why I have facebook. I have it for my students.

Two years ago, I created a second account on facebook for my family. I see what is going on with my two brothers' children. They do not talk to me on the phone or in email or texts. They do talk to me on facebook every blue moon. One brother initiates conversations with me via facebook sometimes.
I am happy to hear about and from my niece and nephews.

Facebook suggests people to join. Some people request to be friended. That is how I get requests from cousins I have not spoken to in thirty plus years. It is hard to turn down a request because I am refusing someone.
It is easy to unfriend and block because most will not notice. Those in my extended family who do eventually notice will not care.

+++++
Recently when I was talking to my tdoc about this bipolar board I could not explain easily what is was. I told her to think of it as an old fashioned facebook.

Hi, Becky,

Go to the little picture of the lock at the top right hand of the screen in facebook to see your Privacy Shortcuts.
-- Who can see my stuff?
-- Who can contact me?
-- How do I stop someone from bothering me?
-- Who can look me up?

For who can look me up, I have it set to only "Friends" -- not friends of friends.
The first day I got on my work facebook I blocked everyone at work who is an administrator. I do not want any of them ever seeing what I post.

For who can see my stuff, I set it to custom. When I send a status update, it only goes to two or three people that I have been talking to lately.

Play around with the privacy settings or ask someone to show you.

========
Also you can limit what shows up in your news feed.
Go to someone's page and let your mouse hover over the Friend box that has a check mark right now. You can change it so that you do not get notifications from them.

You can hide any pictures and status pictures.
Someone would have to look for them.
You can even sort of delete old things that you have sent out in the past.
This takes me longer to explain than the privacy settings with the lock.

It is o.k. to experiment.

1 One cousin complains too much and usually about other people. --- She is deleted and blocked. :(

2 A spouse of a cousin is defriended because he is close to crazy in his politics and I fought very hard for the opposite side in the last election.

3 A first cousin tonight is bitching about his state government in the winter storm in a way that shows he supports the party I dislike.

Unfriended
AND
Blocked

They are blocked because I do not want Facebook's algorithm to suggest them to me again.

I kicked some butttt.
My friends are dwindling. I am happy. :D

Hurray for Mari! I wish I could get away with that. I have one near family (step dd fiancee) member who is insistent his point of view be that of others, politics mainly. Also a distant cousin, by marriage since divorced...her 2nd husbands political rantings.
I have many friendly people, it's the family that is obnoxious?

But, I don't need the family drama that would happen so I hide the post.

Blocking gives me huge relief sometimes :)

Well done Mari.

Hi, Majo,

It is great to see you.

Hi, Di,

Hiding" their stuff is great. I do that with one person who posts so often that I cannot see anything else.
