Arrow 7 Things You Shouldn't Say To Someone With Anxiety

This is from Huffington Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...Healthy+Living

Quote:
7 Things You Shouldn't Say To Someone With Anxiety

1. “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”

2. “Calm down.”

3. “Just do it.”

4. “Everything is going to be fine.”

5. “I’m stressed out too.”

6. “Have a drink -- it’ll take your mind off of it.”

7. “Did I do something wrong?”
This is funny somehow.
Funnny-sad.

There is probably nothing anyone can SAY to be to help with anxiety --especially when I am the middle of what feels like an anxiety crisis. Something like this is close to being helpful:

Quote:
According to Keith Humphreys, a professor of psychiatry at Stanford University, your words don’t have to be your most powerful method -- offering to do something with them may be the best way to help alleviate their symptoms. Humphreys says activities like meditation, going for a walk or working out are all positive ways to help.
One time after I had already started calming down and he saw me, work buddy suggested I get some water. I thought it was a stupid suggestion but I did it anyway because I knew he was trying to help.

Quote:
A small 2009 study found a "modest" improvement of anxiety in people with mild to moderate generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) treated with chamomile extract.
3 Eggs -- for their B-vitamins

4 Probiotics:
Quote:
Irish researchers found that feeding a certain probiotic bacterium found in yogurt to mice reduced "behaviors associated with stress, anxiety and depression," Discover magazine reported.

I hate these:

5. “I’m stressed out too.”

6. “Have a drink -- it’ll take your mind off of it.”

7. “Did I do something wrong?”

Haha... number 1 too...

I have to admit the other ones work for me though....

Hi, Majo,

It is great to see you.

My mom used to say stuff like

5. “I’m stressed out too.”

____
Actually, whatever you had, she said she had it too.

It would be o.k. with me if "have a drink" worked. I could get behind that.
But it doesn't work.

Some of those I do find irritating, others don't bother me.

The one that really gets my goat, every single time, is
2. “Calm down."

... and any variants thereof... eg, "Just relax", etc.

Right.

That "Calm down" thing is insensitive on many levels . . . . .

For one, it is giving the person a command.
Hello! Maybe this is not a good time to tell me something to do.

I was being counseled by a couple one day,and at the end of the session, the man said,"RELAX !!!" in a loud sort of way. I didn't see them again.
How could I relax? They provoked me to anger while being counseled. I've been through many unpleasant things. We all have been through allot. BF
