Arrow Dr. Oz testified in Senate Hearing

http://consumerist.com/2014/06/17/dr...t-loss-claims/
Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, AND Transportation’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection:
Dr. Oz Grilled By Senator Over “Miracle” Weight-Loss Claims

Specifically, Senator MsCaskill was unhappy that he promoted these three useless products:
Quote:
•(On green coffee extract) — “You may think magic is make-believe, but this little bean has scientists saying they found the magic weight-loss for every body type.”

•(On raspberry ketone) — “I’ve got the number one miracle in a bottle to burn your fat” (raspberry ketone)

•(On garcinia cambogia) — “It may be the simple solution you’ve been looking for to bust your body fat for good.”

She also said this:
Quote:
“I don’t get why you say this stuff, because you know it’s not true,” said McCaskill

IMO, it is about time that someone did "something" about Dr. Oz.
My opinion, here:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread205723.html

You know back when his show started he had a whole show on HCG weightloss...had his own wife on who did it, (who I think is his guinea pig at home)...and now HCG has been removed from the market.

http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/cons.../ucm281333.htm

Dr. Oz shills many things. Some are so ridiculous that people make fun of him. But others do follow him with fervor. I saw one lady he pulled from his audience who transcribed every show into a notebook...he was so proud of that and held it aloft for the camera to zoom in on.

His claim he makes no "money" is hollow... He is paid royally for his show. His earnings for shilling people are considerable. He receives a salary for just doing each show...so if he shills on it, he is taking money for questionable advice.

I watched some of the hearing yesterday. His demeanor was very very revealing. Not the Oz we see on TV, normally, that is for sure.

When I saw Dr. Oz early on when he appeared on his daily show, I saw time after time huge errors in his presentation. He really doesn't know what he is talking about at times. His Vit D show was a huge example. He once had a video of his taking "B6" at night to help sleep, only it wasn't a B6 bottle in his hand! Sloppy production.

And experimenting on his family...how can anyone verify that?

I think Dr. Oz loves attention....he milks it out of his predominately female audience on every show. His long hour show cannot fill the time, so he resorts to game show tactics and silly games which only cheapen his topics IMO.

I hope this is the "end" of Oz as we know him. It will be interesting to see if he reinvents himself, from this day forward.

You know when I started my profession over 40 yrs ago
"diet doctors" were giving people amphetamines, diuretic and thyroid hormone tablets (they were fixed combinations back then)willynilly, and people were dying left and right. It is not really a new situation to see a doctor shilling something while making money at it.
In the case of the "diet pills", they were taken off the market, and the amphetamines additionally put on Schedule II controlled status. Since then the popular PhenFen RX products, were found to be cardiotoxic, also.

It is doctors like Dr. Oz who are ruining the concept of alternative medicine, for the legitimate people who do use supplements safely and affordably. Because of him and the greedy product makers he creates with his silly attitude we may all find our access to helpful supplements seriously curtailed like the European Union has. No more B12, Vit D3, SAMe, OTC.

Thumbs up Good!

From the article: ==>

Quote:
the Senator explained. “I’m concerned that you are melding medical advice, news and entertainment in a way that harms consumers.”
I watched his show, only once, and that is exactly what I thought of it!

So... yeah! Good! Glad someone is havin' a go at him. There's enough infomercials for that stuff, don't need no pseudo-medical advisor hyping it up even more.

I don't know about other countries here, but I live in the EU, and both B12 and D3 are available in my location. The larger doses prescription only. (To my knowledge, the larger doses have always been script only here -- never OTC.)

To my knowledge, prescription Vit D in the US is D2. Here it is D3 -- cholecalciferol. So it wouldn't be all bad if, on the Vitamin D front, the US changed things to be more like here.

Maybe this country is an exception, again, or maybe not.

If you check several sources on this Oz on Capital Hill topic...

You will find a quote from him repeated often from the testimony... He feels "disenfranchized" and this quote you can find easily...by putting that word in the keyword search with his name.

He is angry that he is losing "power"... and that I think reveals his real motive...he wants "power" and admits it. I found this
attitude to be the most disturbing part of his Capitol Hill testimony.
Not really a new concept because most people today have encountered doctors and their "power trips" fairly often.

I saw that on the news. He makes these miracle cures sound like what they did in the old West. I don't watch his show because it's to extreme, and way out there. BF
