Arrow New TV show about a medical doctor who is bipolar

There is a new television show that starts tonight (Thursday) on ABC at 10:00 pm East Coast time:
the medical doctor helps patients with difficult cases while dealing with her own bipolar.
Venessa Redgrave plays her psychiatrist.

Like "House," each episode of "The Black Box" will focus on at least one neurological case. And when Catherine is on her meds, Reilly and Jones say, the doctor is at the top of her game. It's only when she comes off her medication -- which, understandably, happens in the show's first episode -- that she spirals into a manic state.

"Catherine's addicted to her mania," Reilly explains. Jones adds, "Indeed, you can be quite brilliant on it. ... They draw on the inspiration, the fire in the brain."

Producer Amy Holden Jones says that her father was a doctor who suffered from bipolar:

Quote:
"There's been a lot of medical shows, but there's never been a show like this. ... It's about neurology; it's about the 21st century view of the brain," Jones says. "I wanted so much to get new stories on television through a very new character. ... Stories that are about spectacular people outside of the range of normal, who have exceptional minds."

It looks a little too intense for me -- I cannot watch medical stuff - - -
- - ESPECIALLY BECAUSE this is going to use special effects to show hallucinations.
Otherwise the show might be good, I dunno.

Bipolar should be depicted like it really is--- no great moments--- only always crumminess.

Thumbs down

I saw the very beginning of the show.

1 She has to give a big presentation, so the night before she does not take her meds.
By the next day, they are out of her system.
What???
That is unrealistic.

2 Her psychiatrist helps her.

3 Then we have the nuero case of the week -- like House used to have.

I dosed off before we got the case.

Out of her system? They are not telling the viewers the real deal. Are they saying medications are disabling,or bad? If they are, they are not telling the truth about medicines for people with mental health challenges. That's mis-information. I'd especially need my medications if I where going to give a presentation. BF

Right, is tries to simplify things for the audience:
medications are good because they keep us alive but some do not like the dulling effect.

It is a good show actually.
If you liked Hugh Laurie in House, you will like this.

I love Venessa Redgrave as the pdoc. I wish she were my pdoc.

Mari That's true. Our meds can have a dulling affect. The medications that I take before bed do have that affect, though they are not sleeping pills.

I use to watch "House" quite a bit. Hugh Laurie is one of a kind, but we all are. Hugh Laurie stands out as being different a little more then the rest of us. lol BF

Red face

I used to like house too. don't watch much tv these days to know if there are reruns. also don't have cable so that limits our viewing of shows.

Thanks to everyone for the news, reviews, updates on Black Box show.
Like some here, for me House was one of two only tv shows I watched. I'm hoping to regain my ability to watch tv. True, the down depression times need to be accurately portrayed as well. Seems more of us "do time" more on the downside.
