Default Derrick's Neuro is wanting to try Keppra

Hi everyone

I am concerned about what to say or do! Reason is he was on Keppra
for maybe 6 weeks at the most. At least I believe it was.

He was having rage, moods and other issues. The neurologist, and
I thought it was the keppra. But I can't remember for sure which
Neurologist put him on Keppra. But am pretty sure, it was the first
one. And that the biggest reason we took him off was it was the
newest medicine. And he was having lots of seizures and problems.

If I have my time period correct though. He was also on Tegretol
and Depakote. And we found out just after that the Depakote
was toxic for him. It was all the sudden putting his level to high
or low. And we also had hallucinations and other issues.

He was taken off Depakote when it was figured out to be the culprit.

So my worry is that Keppra wasn't the problem. It was the Depakote
all along. But if its not that and its Keppra. I hate to put him or
anyone else through the rage again, that Keppra can and did cause.

Doctor feels the dilantin is leaving his system to fast. I am not sure
what else there might be. He would need one of the newer drugs.

Donna,

Tell the neuro that Derrick had a bad reaction in the past to a drug combo involving Keppra.

The neuro should be sensitive to this kind of information, and can discuss with you whether it is worth having Derrick try it again.

Perhaps he can increase it more slowly than is usually done so that any adverse events which show up will be in milder form at first.

Thanks Waves

I plan to talk to the Neuro about it. But I don't believe the amount was
ever upped last time. I am not positive, thanks to my head injuries the
amounts are not sticking in my head anymore.

Okay, have I ever said I love his neuro.

Its so neat the way, you say what happened last time he was on this
med. And he says, oh we don't want that. Nix that one. He then asked
about Lamictal. We were willing to retry it. But when it dawned on
him that I was saying he was on it once. Nope not retrying either.

We will just stay with Dilantin, and watch it closer. Also he is redoing
blood levels in December right before his January appointment.

Love this guy.

Donna,

That is so great -- he is listening and wanting to do what is best for Derrick.

I hope that he can find a solution.
