Bizi,

It appears that she is trying to figure out a way to help you.
My guess is that she will write the script when she becomes more comfortable.

Re her misunderstanding of the sinclair method . . . . how did she get confused:

While most alcohol addiction treatment methods involve the patient practicing abstinence in order to recover, the Sinclair method is one of the only treatment options that allow patients to continue to drink.

Red face

I have been reading for the past 2 hours about peoples side effects and such. Some people have really bad side effects. nausea, sea legs, foggyness. and I read to go up slowly 12.5mg to start. It could work for me at that dose. Most people cut their alcohol intake in half or more after a few months. This will require much patience.

Got "the " call from pdoc.
She is not prescribing the naltexone like I requested. She referred me to 3 different pdoc with that specialty. I told her about my menopause, she referred me to see my gyn...but I don't have one. And I think she should be involved because of my bipolar, but she doesn't feel that way.
sigh... I told her that I was not going to see another pdoc because of costs and that I was just going to drop the neltrexone.
I may get it on line.

Bizi,

It stinks that you are adjusting your idea of what was going to be your plan.

Tell the pdoc that your meds are not working for you.
She would be willing to accomodate you within her role as a pdoc.

My pdoc's have never cared about gyn issues.
Perhaps your PCP can handle the gyn hormones.

That would be my vote. Naltrexone aside, I have already expressed some concerns about you feeling nervous going to appointments, feeling judged when you discuss your drinking, and having AA constantly shoved down your throat. It would be nice to find a pdoc you can enter into a partnership with, or at least find a level of comfort with.

If these pdocs that she's recommending prescribe naltrexone, they probably have a better understanding of substance abuse disorders, and likely dual-diagnosis…
One question that may come into play is how under control your bp really is. As Mari once told me, people with bipolar disorder who are properly medicated drink differently than those who aren't. She's right, it's been a lot easier for me to resist alcohol since I've been stable.

My pdoc was very concerned about the possibility that I may have to change birth control because of the endometriosis, and said we'd have to discuss it after I saw my GYN. I think it's odd that your pdoc wasn't concerned, had no input, especially if you told her about the depo… another reason why you may want to rethink that relationship.

Red face

perhaps I should remind her of the depo shot and mania.
It has been a long time ago that that happened.
and she probably has hundreds of patients.
and I told her that 13 years ago.

Bizi,

You are getting ahead of yourself.
Do this one step at a time.
Make an appointment with a gyn.
