I started out at one hundred topamax. I will never forget the next two days.
I was free of a burden and felt normal. I had never known what normal felt like. Unfortunately that didn't last more than two days but it was a real eye opener how most people feel. I have never read that topamax had anti depressive qualities.

Nikko

Going up like you are should really help on the topamax.

If you find some relief at the 50mg though I would hold off on going on
up to the 100mg for say even 1 more week. The reason being that the
longer the 50mg can hold the headaches at bay the better. Then you
wont be needing to continue raising the amount.

Even though honestly even 50 mg or 100 mg all together isn't much.
I take 200mg a day for migraines and have now for over 2 years.
I took 100mg a day for about 1 year before needing to go up because
it was not holding the migraines at bay anymore.

But now I needed to go up again, and instead added a different medicine
because of high blood pressure, one that helps both.

So, if I had only got the steriods to take I would still be taking the Cymbalta, so why not start taking the Topamax. The only reason my PCP wanted me to wait was to see if it is the steriods that worked to stop the cycle of migraines or the Topamax.

I am not renewing my script for Cymbalta at this time. I guess I should just call my p-doc and tell her what has been and is going on, huh?

Just so sick of Doctor's. I see her the end of this month, I think, or is it next month? Have to check. Maybe I should just up my appointment with her. Too much to explain over the phone and she is hard to get a hold of, I have to talk to my case manager that gets everything screwed up, sad to say.

I really would like to start the Topamax today. In fact I should, since I need to be on a AD. Don't want to get all down and depressed on top of all of this.

Any thoughts? I can use all the help I can get.

Sorry to be such a pain in the butt. Lately I have been a post nut, venting away, asking lots of ????, hope I can return all the support and help you have all given me.

Hugs, Nikko
Hey, I know this is a late response, but I believe when you write AD you mean anti-depressants, correct? Just a little input from me, Topamax is not an anti-depressant. It does, however, help with mood swings as well as killer headaches. So if you need to be on an "AD" Topamax may or may not be enough. I do love it. The drug does seem to work wonders. Just make sure to drink plenty of fluids because kidney stones occur quite frequently with patients on Topamax.

Hi there!

Nikko hasn't been around for quite a while lately. A few of us are in touch with her however. Last I knew she was taking a different AD than Cymbalta... but it was definitely an AD not something like Topamax. I'm not sure if she does take Topamax also (she has migraines, so it is possible).

Anyway, I will let her know about the kidney stones (did not know about that!) in case she does take Topamax. She keeps pretty hydrated, but it is always best to be aware of this kind of stuff. Thank you kindly for posting this! I hope to see you in the other threads!

I noticed the date on this post is 2007. At that time Cymbalta was under a cloud and the side effects very spectacular.

From the research I've done recently (before I was put on it), the new formula has very few side effects compared to the original formula.

I've been on it for 2 months now I think and although it has made no difference to the cycle the depression takes, and no difference to the anxiety and panic, I've had no adverse side effects.

Are you still on the Cymbalta and if so how are you doing with the topamax with it?

Thanks,
Rhiannon
