Question Cymbalta vs Topamax ???????????

Since I have been on 60 mg of Cymbalta with all of this (an AD). I don't think my p-doc will think I will need it, since I am switching to Topamax 50mg after the steriods.

So, if I had only got the steriods to take I would still be taking the Cymbalta, so why not start taking the Topamax. The only reason my PCP wanted me to wait was to see if it is the steriods that worked to stop the cycle of migraines or the Topamax.

I am not renewing my script for Cymbalta at this time. I guess I should just call my p-doc and tell her what has been and is going on, huh?

Just so sick of Doctor's. I see her the end of this month, I think, or is it next month? Have to check. Maybe I should just up my appointment with her. Too much to explain over the phone and she is hard to get a hold of, I have to talk to my case manager that gets everything screwed up, sad to say.

I really would like to start the Topamax today. In fact I should, since I need to be on a AD. Don't want to get all down and depressed on top of all of this.

Any thoughts? I can use all the help I can get.

Sorry to be such a pain in the butt. Lately I have been a post nut, venting away, asking lots of ????, hope I can return all the support and help you have all given me.

Hugs, Nikko

I'm not sure I understand this but are you saying one doctor prescribed cymbalta and another is saying just stop it completely. Without going off on a time frame. I would double check, but I'm not positive but most of these medicines you need to taper down off of. So I wouldn't want to just go off cold turkey without it being told by either the prescribing doctor or a pharmacist that I trust that its okay. I would even consider going say everyother night for a week. And then off.

Now topamax starting on the 50mg to replace the cymbalta, yes I would definately start that, but they can be taken together too. I take both.
So I'm not sure why the doctor has you going off. So I would definately be wondering about this. I think personally I would be wanting to try it on both first. Then maybe going off the cymbalta after say two months if it doesnt help. IT will take at least a little while usually to see some help. But not always from the topamax.

Hoping you figure this out. SOmetimes it takes some time.

I just assumed that since Cymbalta and Topamax are both AD's that why would I need to take both? I guess I am self diagnosing here.

See my p-doc put me on Cymbalta awhile ago. My PCP just gave me the script for the Topamax yesterday, and yes she knows I take Cymbalta too.

I am just so confused with all this, dopey me .....going to call my p-doc to get her up to date and she what she says.

Thanks, Hugs, Nikko

who told you topamax was an ad? it isn't. It is used as a mood stabilizer. That is what I am on besides antidepressant. But it has been found to help migraines and food disorders and possibly alcholism. A possible side effect is weight loss. I had some cognitive difficulties when I was on 200 m but now I am on 100 and my memory hasn't been sharper in years besides all this depression and anxiety and irritability and lack of sleep.

I would taper down the Cymbalta and call your pdoc. You don't know what your body will do if you stop it cold turkey.

OOPS on me, I thought Topamax was an AD......Ok, now I must get my Cymbalta refilled, I could of sworn my Lamictal was my mood stabilizer and my Cymbalta my AD, because my mom takes Cymbalta for depression.

I am really losing it. Bare with me please.

Thanks,,,,,Nikko

Cymbalta -- Anti Depressant
Topamax -- Mood Stabilizer and Headache Med
Lamictal -- Mood Stabilizer, also helps with depression

Hi,
Starting Topamax at 50 sounds high to me. I started at 5. But I'm not a doctor.
You'll work it out.
Leave a phone message with the pdoc that you started on Topamax for headaches.

After I am done with the Methylprednisolone - which will be Monday I take only one, then I start on the Topamax 1/2 of 50mg tablet, so 25mg for a week , then it goes up to 50mg for a week, then 100mg, 50 in the am and 50 in the pm.

So, I start the Topamax on Tuesday.

I am going to call my p-doc tomorrow for sure though.

I got my Cymbalta filled today too. Didn't need any other complications, there are some side effects with your body adjusting to the prednisolone, so that also starts out at 6 a day and drops down each day until you take only one the last day.

Talk about confusion, that's me!

I started out at one hundred topamax. I will never forget the next two days.
I was free of a burden and felt normal. I had never known what normal felt like. Unfortunately that didn't last more than two days but it was a real eye opener how most people feel. I have never read that topamax had anti depressive qualities.

I noticed the date on this post is 2007. At that time Cymbalta was under a cloud and the side effects very spectacular.

From the research I've done recently (before I was put on it), the new formula has very few side effects compared to the original formula.

I've been on it for 2 months now I think and although it has made no difference to the cycle the depression takes, and no difference to the anxiety and panic, I've had no adverse side effects.

Are you still on the Cymbalta and if so how are you doing with the topamax with it?

Thanks,
Rhiannon
