My father-in-law lives in New Smyrna Beach (near Daytona) and decided to stay in Orlando until the storm passes. I saw that the storm is hitting his address right about now.

Dmom3005 10-07-2016 08:58 AM

Glad your safe Mari.

Donna :hug::grouphug:

Mari 10-07-2016 11:56 AM

Kay,

He did well to stay in Orlando. It is a smart move.

The eye of the storm is not expected to hit so most likely his place
will be safe when he returns to it.

That's great Mari. I'm so glad that your electricity remained on through this strange Hurricane. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Matthew is forecast to go around the right side of the Bahamas at around 2 PM Wednesday. It would only be a tropical depression, and not much to worry about according to the weather charts. It may go out into the Atlantic, or head toward the Gulf of Mexico. They don't know.

There are two high pressure systems that are forecast to push Matthew away from the coast. One is almost in place now, and the other one is forecast to hit it later.

Nicole is no longer a hurricane, and is forecast to turn away from the Atlantic Coast. It's downgraded to tropical storm. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 10-09-2016 12:39 AM

Thanks, BF.

We will have quiet for now.

Parts of the Carolinas got hit hard it seems.

Your welcome Mari. Now Matthew is forecast to go out to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and not down to the Bahamas, and/or the Gulf of Mexico.

Thank goodness. They are showing Matthew headed away from America.:Head-Spin::yahoo:

The sun is shining. There is a little wind, but that's ok. BF:hug::hug::hug:

It's 45 degrees here at 2:42 AM. What a change! We had the hurricane a few days ago, and now it's 45 degrees!!! BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 10-29-2016 01:09 AM

air conditioner

It was eighty degrees in the house (hotter than outside) an hour ago.

The electronic reader on the a/c said "malfunction."
I got hubby out of bed to fiddle with the machine and told him to call the a/c guys in the a.m.

I was starting to get anxious about sleeping tonight.
Then I heard the a/c eventually turn itself on.

That is one of the most comforting sounds in the world.

M

OhKay 10-29-2016 06:49 AM

I'm glad your A/C kicked on. 80 degrees is an uncomfortable temp to sleep in. You don't need any more barriers there

Mari 08-25-2017 09:49 AM

Hurricane Harvey

The hurricane is a category 2 that is expected to be a category 3 when it
hits land this afternoon.

The state has already evacuated people living in trailers, living near the shore, living in low lying areas. . . .

=-=-
Lots of oil and gas production in Texas. If they shut down for a few days, gas prices could be impacted across the U.S.

bizi 08-25-2017 09:54 AM

WE are expected to receive a lot of rain starting sunday....:(

Brokenfriend 08-26-2017 01:11 AM

It's hitting Texas pretty hard. The wind looks awful. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 08-26-2017 05:29 AM

It hit at a category 4.

Lots of flooding -- some cities are highly prone to flooding.

M

OhKay 08-26-2017 07:33 AM

It's expected to just linger over certain areas and just dump rain on them for days on end. The flooding will be terrible... the wind damage has been awful, and they say some people may be without power for weeks...

I feel so badly for the people effected. I will say some good words for them all.

bizi 08-26-2017 10:17 AM

I think it has been over a decade since a hurricane hit land fall at a 4.
Very scary.
We will get rain all next week.
They have closed some of the schools in southern areas for monday and tuesday. These areas are prone to flooding.
It was a year ago that we had major flooding in our area, flooding areas of lafayette that never flooded before. We were fine, just some of the streets were flooded. But we were in pensecola last year when that happened so missed it all.
Some of the highways were flooded. Thankfully we had a GPS that rerouted us to safety.
Some homes are still rebuilding, those with out flood insurance hardly got any assistance from fema...many abandoned their properties or sold them cheap as is and people scooped them up to gut them and repair/rebuild to sell for a profit.
Bizi

OhKay 08-27-2017 07:38 AM

I hope your property doesn't flood and those in your area aren't too effected by the rain

Please be careful driving and don't be afraid to cancel if the weather is too bad, or your local officials issue more serious warnings :hug::hug:

To all Neurotalk members in Houston and areas of Texas being affected by hurricane Harvey please know you are in the thoughts of many around the world. We hope that you and your family and friends come through this ordeal safely. For those who have experienced trauma, loss of homes and communities or other devastation we wish you strength and perseverance towards recovery.

I was heading south to a clients house out of town in Abbeville. road was closed so had to cancel client.

Be careful when driving because we cannot see how deep the puddles are.

Parents are ok

My father emailed me a day or so after the TX storm.
They lost power for half a day and did fine. (brother-in-law is an
electrician who could have powered up the generator/s if necessary.)

=-=-
Monday night father called -- this time from sister's house -- likely they ate
dinner there -- not sure.
Sister has been off work but brother-in-law is a foreman
so he gets called in on off days.

They are all safe ---- days and days of rain but not flooding.

My barometer is falling big time. That shows that a storm is close by. That is a good indicator. Barometers. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 08-30-2017 01:47 AM

My sister yelled at me on phone because I told her to stop explaining

Dad and Mom lost most/all of their electricity because a neighbor's tree fell on
something (transformer) or maybe the transformer fell on the tree -- have no idea.

My father and I had already spoken and he and Mom were o.k. and
able to laugh about the situation.

=-=-=
Then my sis wanted to clarify what Dad said about what fell on what.
I told her I could not deal with specific details -- BRAIN NOT WORKING.

She got loud and insisted on telling me.
I yelled at her: STOP YELLING AT ME.

She must really hate me because she kept it up.

I cried after we hung up. Crying again now.

M

Dmom3005 08-30-2017 03:01 PM

Sounds like she is really upset too. Its part of having these problems.

I know its hard but try blocking her out.

We talked a little yesterday -- my sis and I.

She knew not to tell me a freeeeking thing about the electrical issue.

She talked to Hubby about how Mom and Dad are getting 110 but not 220 or
something --- Hubby understood when I put him on.

I do not give a darn -- too many godZillion things on my mind to have
to learn about electricity.

(Did I saw that work is absolutely crazy busy and I sleep two hours before

going in?)

Radio requiring D batteries

9 volt batteries
D batteries -- might need more after checking.

Huge bags of nuts for hubby.
Dried fruit for hubby.
Canned soup for me.
Some fresh fruit.

Basic first aid kit I bought from Amazon.

OhKay 09-02-2017 08:23 AM

I'm sorry about the incident with your sister. I'm glad that things are better now

I hope that you don't end up in the path of the hurricane, Mari. But I'm glad that you are getting prepared early

Brokenfriend 09-02-2017 08:37 PM

I am tracking hurricane Irma that is out over the middle of the ocean between North Africa, and Central America. According to the predictions, it may not be headed toward Texas. It looks like it's going to go to the North away from Texas. Who can tell? It's still out there in the middle of the ocean. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Brokenfriend 09-05-2017 09:25 PM

I don't want to add to the hype. Irma is a category 5 hurricane. It's headed for Florida according to the predictions. Then it's going to downgrade to a category 4 hurricane. Don't panic. Just be prepared. BF:rain::sorry::hug:

bizi 09-05-2017 09:37 PM

I think I read that it is 5 miles per hour less than the record.
Very strong storm.
I am sending good vibes and well wishes for safety in the storm.
bizi:hug::hug::hug:

Mari 09-05-2017 10:39 PM

The storm is bigger across that the whole state of Ohio.

Hubby thinks that our house can withstand the storm.
I want to pack up the car and get somewhere safe like the mountains of Georgia.

Hubby and I had everything we need but I did a run to the grocery store for a
few more things -- they had already run out of things like water. The store
was crowded.

Work closed for Wed, Thurs, Friday.
I texted my sis all day so I could talk about the storm.
NOT in the mood to talk to hubby about it.

So frustrated and annoyed and grouchy.
