Trig I'm hearing negative comments on Mental health from politicians, and TV.

Most of what I hear on TV these days about mental health, is there is a problem with mental illness. This bothers me. They are not talking about this in a positive way.

I am being careful to not talk about politics.

Have other people heard what I am hearing in TV discussions.

Are we suppose to be quiet when they talk about the whole category of mental health in a negative way? BF

I have noticed that there is a push for more funding, which is good, but I don't like how some people word things when they make their case though. I know there are always other people out there making statements for other reasons.

You don't have to be silent… there are platforms such as Twitter and Facebook that you can use to respond to the people making statements that bother you, whether they are politicians, TV personalities, etc. You can create a new account just for responding to these types of things so it is not linked to your personal info.

I'm sorry that you are particularly bothered by this right now. It can really get to me sometimes, too

With mental illnesses on the rise it is hard not to project a positive image about that. the homeless population of increased vets is astounding. And they suffer with mental illness at an alarming rate of PTSD. How can we put a positive spin on these issues?
I wish they showed more compassion, is that what you mean?

Hi Bizi. The positive spin on this is that more, and more people are getting help for their mental health conditions. There are better medicines then before, and more councilors. People use to not talk about these issues at all because it is so misunderstood.

We have a long way to go though.

When I was a young man, I didn't talk about it because these things were not talked about until around 1980.
(((But))) like you said, There is not much of a positive spin off. The pressures of these modern times are very heavy. BF

I'm worried about the ((stigma)) of mental illness coming back. We had come so far with our advocates. BF

About the only things I watch on TV are the British mysteries, & the science programs, they show on our local PBS station. Sometimes I'll hear the local news because I'm waiting for the weather forecast to come on. The one thing I've noticed is that every report on some murder or terrorist attack seems to get around, sooner or later, to saying the perpetrator had some sort of mental illness. I think this is a worrisome trend.

I saw a clip from an interview with journalist Bill Moyers recently that was to be broadcast on our local PBS station. (I didn't watch the full program.) Anyway, in the clip I saw, Moyers commented that journalism is a "fallen profession." I couldn't agree more.

People unqualified to do so (journalists and politicians) are diagnosing candidates -- (I just did a search to see.)

I am only watching old Netflix shows and DVR'd shows that are safe.
