Bizi, the only supplement which I take is taurine (1 g/day). It has helped with irritating tinnitus in one of my ears - thanks to mrsD for drawing this to my attention :).

This link (courtesy of mrsD) provides evidence that taking taurine as a supplement can help with a range of health problems The Forgotten Longevity Benefits of Taurine - Life Extension.

Thank you for posting this, I have an 87 year old client of mine with tinitis.
Am looking forward to telling her about this. She has tried so many different therapies to no avail.
The article said it could take up to 3 weeks to work, how did you know to stop at 1 Gram and not go up to 3 Grams?

I used to take 500mg.... no effect on tinnitus, but very successful for me for sluggish gallbladder.

When I raised to 1000mg a day, that is when the tinnitus effect appeared. I noticed a tremendous decrease within one week.

Taurine also helps with circulation, and that is what I think the tinnitus improvement is due to.

One can go higher if they want (not recommended over 3000mg), but I find my results are adequate for me for now. Sometimes I take 1500 a day but not everyday. I have several bottles left of 500mg from Puritan's and it is easy to take 1500mg that way.

But for an elderly person like your client, I'd start slowly, just because of age, etc. Did you read the link about it?
It can lower blood sugar too for type II diabetics. So very high doses may upset treatment doses of antidiabetic drugs or insulin which may need to be adjusted.

Bizi, 1 gram/day works for me so I have not increased it.

I get my taurine as pharmaceutical-grade powder from a reputable local source.

It is cheap (250 grams costs me $A22). A quarter of an Australian teaspoon of it is about 1 gram (i checked this using a balance at work) - I just dissolve that gram in water.

supposed to help with sleep.

Puritan's is having its buy 1 get 2 free... I just got 6 bottles of
1000mg.

Taurine 1 mg 5 Caplets | Amino Acid Supplements Supplements| Puritan's Pride

This sale is not forever, they usually drop it and have others.
The buy one and get 2 free is the most cost effective.

I buy our stuff once or twice a year. Not everything but the most common. Taurine is not nearly as costly as acetyl carnitine. So we are lucky in that.

So do shop around..you will find many prices out there.

Well it may be the placebo effect but I tried an amino acid glutamine.
It is supposed to decrease your cravings.
For quick release open up a capsule and put the powder under you tongue and let it dissolve, more rapidly than just thru your stomach.
I think it worked! I was able to pass by whole foods and not stop.
So I went home amazed!
Hubby cooked some pork chops and mixed veggies. Had a couple pieces of cheese and a handful of almonds prior to dinner.
Hopefully the hot flashes will let me sleep tonight, they did not last night.

I bought some glutamine with this last recent Puritans
Order. I wanted to see if it would help my GI issues.
About 50% is used to repair GI lining from an oral
dose. But I'll have to try it sooner now.;)

Thanks for that suggestion, Bizi.
