If you're using Mirilax, you can put a funnel (I have a tiny one) over your glass and measure your dose over it and into your glass or bottle so it doesn't go everywhere. If you don't have a funnel, you can make one out of a paper or plastic cup. No mess.

If you're using mag. citrate, buy any flavor EXCEPT lemon-lime because it's the worst and the hardest to get down. I find it's easier to get down if it's really cold and if you drink it with a straw. I alternate with water.

I did a Mirilax colon cleanse (14 doses divided into 2 bottles of Gatorade) last night. Even with the 2 bottles of mag. citrate I downed two nights ago it wasn't enough to get me back to a healthy place- FORGET about cleaning me out. I have enough Mirilax and Gatorade left to do the colon cleanse again, and it's easier to stomach than the mag. citrate, so I think I will do it again tonight. Usually I skip a day between putting myself through things like this, but I have a big problem on my hands that will only get worse if I wait.

You would think the Miralax colon cleanse and the mag citrate would be enough for you to get back to things moving along.

I did try the straw and keep the mag citrate in the frig; but still is hard to get down. Unfortunately, I did do the lemon when I had a colonoscopy a few years ago. I was sent home after getting to the hospital because the stuff you have to drink the day before and in the morning for the colonoscopy wasn't enough to clean me out to do the test. I had to return a few days later and had to do a 2 day cleanse, along with the mag citrate (I needed to take a colorless so that's why I choose the lemon. YUK !!!


I get easily impacted too because of my pain meds. The only way I found to keep things moving along is taking 3 heaping doses daily with a 4th dose in between. Can't miss a day or else I am in big trouble. I usually pour Miralax into the pink cap over the sink and go above the line to make sure I have more than enough.

I'm sorry you have such awful bowel problems too, Gerry (((HUGS)))

Even though I take all that crap every day, I usually can't go AT ALL unless I take mag. citrate or do the colon cleanse. I got sick and tired of all the nausea and heartburn taking them cause and I let things go... really let things go. I'm not surprised I'm this backed up.

I couldn't make myself do the colon cleanse again last night. And I can't do it over the weekend because I can't share the bathroom with my husband the next morning. I'll do it Sunday night.

So if I understand correctly, you mix 7 doses in each of the 2 bottles of Gatorade. How far apart do you drink each glass full?

Yes, I drink a 28oz bottle of Gatorade with (7) doses of Mirliax dissolved in it over the course of about 30-45 minutes, then another one of the same in about the same amount of time. It's easier to do if you take it more slowly than that tho because it's heavy and if you drink it too fast you can get an uncomfortable full feeling, but I just like to get it over with.

Oh my gosh Kay; Have you done anything at all??

In order to keep something moving regularly; I can't miss taking the 3 doses a few hours apart every day; then after doing that, I take a4th dose in a few days instead of the 3. (Medication constipation articles often mentions not taking bulk type; like Metamucil, etc; because they increases bulk which is already a problem with constipation. (The reason I use only Miralax).

This is the only way I keep things moving; (but it's more of a thick liquid..uggh),but I know I am not emptying out completely which should probably be done at times. I thought maybe a colon cleanse would be good to try in between.

I still take my regular med regiment: 1250mg FiberCon and 8.6mg of senna twice a day and 30ml of lactulose at night. That doesn't do anything though. I go to the BR maybe once a week. I try other things, like Dulcolax tabs and suppositories, which don't work well either.

I do see a gastro. That is our med plan, except he wants me to take 2 bottles of mag.citrate twice a week. I used to do it once a week, but I haven't been compliant lately because I just can't stomach it.

I'm actually due for a follow-up with the NP. I have to call Monday to make the appointment.
