My parents are nut cases.

They certainly did not teach me how to take care of myself.

I think lots of people (not just Bipolar people) have to learn as
adults how to take care of themselves.

I agree with Mari.

Some people are capable of learning how to take care of themselves through life experiences, whereas others who may have childhood trauma, have grown up in dysfunctional families, or have other challenges, need more help tho.

Honestly another thing to think on.

An parent can teach you how to take care of yourself. But you have to
decide to do it. I know that I don't always take care of myself. But in
this case I'm thinking more of my kids.

Derrick definitely takes care of himself. With a little help.
Dan, hmmm, I'm not so sure he really gets taking care of himself has
to happen for others to be taken care of too.
Devin well he takes care of what he knows he needs to. Like WIll and
things like jobs and getting there.

I think that your kids are really lucky Donna, because it's clear from your posts that you love your family very much and are a good mother. I'm sure that you have been a positive influence on your boys, and have given them good guidance

I think you are 100& right... sometimes some people just have to WANT to be or have to be somehow MOTIVATED to take care of themselves.

Bobby, I wasn't aware that I didn't have the tools to take care of myself for a long time. I've really just learned how to do it better recently.
