Default Memory Issues

Hi all,

My name is Janice and I usually post over at the Parkinson's Group.

My brother was recently diagonses with Bipolar Disorder and is on Lithium.

He has been having issues with "short term" memory. He forgets what he is talking about in the middle of talking or someone will tell him something and then a few minutes later he can't remember what they said.

Do any of you know if this is a symptom of the disorder or a side effect of the medication? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Janice

Default both?

Hi JJH,
I have short term memory problems. I'm not sure if they are part of the meds or the disorder.
Most likely both.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Red face welcome

Memory isssues are hard to take...young or old...
If he was recently diagnosed...it is hard to tell which one.
Something that I would encourage is to also get a physical check up to make sure there is nothing else going on.
The thing he may also be dealing with is a racing mind...kinda hard to keep up with conversation when your mind is going a hundred miles an hour...then he may not be able to focus or concentrate....
these could be side effects from the medication and if so they could improve with time.
There are other mood stabilizers out today with fewer side effects if this doesn't work out.
