Default Manic brother

Manic brother posted on facebook to show off and be obnoxious.
He made a complaint about the TSA looking at his carry on bag and about the
number of cool books he was reading.

He trashed the TSA for not appreciating his books.
=-=-=-
Annoyed but hoping not to start a war, I made a lame comment:
"They do not get paid much."

Later I saw that he deleted his post and mine.

I wonder if he does not feel appreciated enough for his brilliance or something.
He can be obnoxious in a mean way but his friends think he is cool and smart.

His post seems really odd to me. It seems like he was creating something out of nothing to get attention (at the expense of others).

Is he BPI?
How much of this type of stuff do you think is part of his personality, and how much of it do you think is the BP?

Kay,

Yes, you recognize that it is a personality thing. But I think he acts like
he could be manic as well. I see some mania a little in my Dad as well.

Brother did about a month of jail-time when he was in his early twenties for
participating in a sale of something (acid?) that cost my father a lot in legal fees.

Brother runs high -- as if he is bipolar. But never diagnosed. Has anxiety, too, as do all of us siblings.
After the jail stint, he self medicates with alcohol and lots (TONS) of exercise.

He has a lot of friends that have stayed with him from all of his moves around
the country.

He has an amazing memory -- can quote from the books he reads.

He runs high -- always busy with tons of energy.
And he has anxiety.
I do not see him enough to recognize the ups and down of bipolar.
Maybe he does not cycle -- mostly stays up.

Mari

Sounds more like he thought his friends would like it and respond.
Reminds me of someone seeking attention.

Not sure why his friends like him. The other siblings agree that he is
an a-hole.

LOL!!!

It can be hard to tell if someone's BP if they are self-medicating, especially if they are high-functioning. For long stretches (years), I would really rapid cycle (mainly without any depression), and my episodes just blended together, so I was up all the time.

Kay,

I appreciate your insight today and all the time.

You are a wise woman.

=-=-=

Today, brother emailed me a link to a fancy restaurant. Apparently his son
applied there as a cook and could get the job.
I emailed back something hopeful and commented on how impressed I was by the restaurant.

(Brother really needs lots of attention and people telling him
how great he is even if the news is about possible greatness of his son/ my nephew.)

He probably needs all this positive reinforcement and uses all this grandiosity as a shield because he is extremely insecure. My father is like that, but to extremes. It can be so tiring.
