Barney,

You have to watch out for the alcohol with the lithium and the Lyrica.

If you are drinking alcohol with the lithium, it may not end up working well for you. Please drink plenty of water if you do drink.

Lyrica is sedating, so that's why it's important to try to limit your alcohol intake while on that.

I was on both of those meds... and drank on them... not the best idea

Ohkay , thank you I'll definitely remember that , im actually trying to go go alcohol free for atleast 2 weeks but hoping to be able to do a month, I think I need to give my liver a break for a while , not to mention it kind of felt like I was looking forward to drinking to much so definitely time for a break ..

Sometimes it's good to take a break, so that sounds like a great goal, Barney.
I know that going AF is hard, and I wish you the best of luck

I think that the lithium didn't work for me like it should have because of my drinking, but I was a bing-drinking alcoholic.

You should also avoid taking any NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, etc. because it will raise the amount of lithium in your system.
And drinking alcohol or not, drinking enough water is important when you are on lithium...

Well unfortunately going AF was to hard i had a bust soon after making my post.

But the good news is the throbbing feeling i complained of is getting lesser the more we increase the dose, I got probably a 30% decrease in symptoms with the starting dose of 25mg x2 daily then when increase to 75mg x2 daily which is a pretty stardard dose, I got a further improvement so I might only need another 25 to 50mg more and I think it will be all gone, when I asked the doctor will I have to be on this medication for the rest of my life he said that we usually start to take people of the medication after 3 to 6 months when the nerves have settled down, I meant to ask the doctor how I actually got nerve pain in my head, I think it was all the stress and anxiety of the manic episode I experienced myself..

Barney,

'Happy to hear that the Lyrica dose is helping you.

You gave me a chuckle with your nerves in the brain remark. Thx.

I'm so glad that the med is helping with the pain you were having! I hope when you increase the dose it disappears. Manic episodes can cause all sorts of problems...

I'm sorry that going AF was too hard. You're not alone. Just try to be careful, or set more realistic goals, whichever is the way you choose to go

Thanks everyone, I'll keep you all updated when I go up in dose.. I did actually see my psychiatrist yesterday who I told I was I now on lyrica she said make sure your doctor puts you on the bulk of your dose at night because of how sedating the med is through the day so I'll be telling my doctor that when I do go up in dose..

I also told her about how I haven't quite recovered from my manic episode I still feel my comprehension and memory needs to improve before getting a job she says that they only real proven way to improve cognitive function is to exercise we spoke about how much I should be exercising which she suggested 3km twice a week (fast walking)

I also told her about drinking to much she said that a male can drink 6 drinks but you need to have a few days of before resuming you can't drink every day she said

It's currently been about 5 months since I've been stabilsed on lithium I have been told before it could take 12 months before a full recovery

I've found that how long it takes to recover from a manic episode depends on the severity of it. The ones that are accompanied by paranoia, delusions, and/or hallucinations are obviously the worst. And the ones that run on for a long time unchecked can mean a long recovery time, too.

If you are having a hard time reigning in your drinking, you may be having a separate episode of hypomania. Be vigilant and look for other symptoms...

Best of luck to you, Barney. I am really looking forward to reading a positive update
