Met with my sponsor...she basically gave me a choice to either buy the big book and start reading it or find a new sponsor.
I don't want to read the big book.She figured out how controlling I am. She said you have to find some higher power to work the steps.
After I left I was angry. I like her so don't want to lose her but can't do the big book. I am an atheist.
I was going to say just f*** it and said that I was going to go to fat pats for a drink.screw it!....I drove over there and went in and then went to the bathroom. I said to myself. Just because I came here doesn't mean I have to stay and drink. I really want to lose weight and drinking beers I gain.
So I left and came home. Success!
I put on 50 pounds in 4 years drinking fattening beers.
2 people I know lost over 50 pounds doing the keto diet in 4 months time.

To walk into a bar, and to walk out without drinking, had to be SO HARD. When I was drinking, I NEVER could have done that... I am SO proud of you!!! (((HUGS)))

I know you already know that God does not have to be your "higher power". I chose "life" as mine, not that it fits 100%, but it was acceptable to the men leading all the meetings in the nuthouse. I never really got into AA tho. I only went to a few meetings, never had a sponsor, and never really "did" the whole higher power thing even though I was choosing life by quitting drinking in my particular situation, and reminded myself of that frequently.

I don't do well with ultimatums either. I guess you have to decide if you want to keep your sponsor or not tho. You will obviously have to REALLY do AA if you want to. I found the Big Book to be useful and interesting. I think I already told you that you can take what you want/need and leave the rest, but I don't know if that's your sponsor's plan tho. I don't know how much of the book she will want to use. Did she give you any kind of deadline?

My brother has lost over 70lbs doing his "lazy keto" diet. I don't know how long it's taken him tho. He posted before and after photos of himself on some social media platform, and apparently a "legit" medical doctor who advocates for the keto diet has asked to use his story. He has always been heavy. He looks awesome

It is not an all or nothing thing. I use life, universe, God interchangeably. The 12 steps help many people and provide support so you don't have to do this alone. There is something out there that is greater than me. Your sponsor may or may not work, but many people have found true sobbriety using the parts of AA that helped the, and leaving the other crap behind. if you need to get a different sponsor down the road, you can. But see what you can learn from her. Approach this with an open mind, which I know you do. If it does not work, take the knowledge and pursue your goal differently.

Ok, so last night I felt like she was giving me an ultimatum but tonight after the atheist AA meeting that she was there also. WE talked, and I guess she will allow another book. It is the womens 12 step that I just got in. I will work the steps and she agreed to continue seeing me. I like her. I believe I can learn from her. So 6pm on tuesdays is set.
