The roaches come in so infrequently I don't know if the liquid is helping with them. I know it stopped the ants almost over night.

i don't feel well. my neck and upper shoulders still hurt after my fall. i did already used the bike this morning and my legs didn't hurt. i was severely depressed yesterday but remembered to listen to a lecture on leonard cohen. after two minutes i was fine. i learned that it could take him 5 years to finish a song. somebody asked bob dylan how much time it took him to write a certain song. he said 15 minutes,

The study

Twenty years after Cohen’s recovery, a remarkable study came out of Mumbai, the same Indian city where Cohen broke free from his depression.4 It was a controlled trial of Buddhist meditation for bipolar II depression. By psychotherapy standards, the study was huge, with 622 patients. Half were randomized to cognitive behavioral therapy, and the other half underwent training in meditation. The study lasted 2 years, during which the meditation group was advised to follow a simple 30-minute practice once a week (see Sidebar). That is correct-only 30 minutes per week. The teaching was also low intensity: 5 to 10 two-hour sessions interspersed throughout the 2-year study.

At the end of the study, the meditation group improved over the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group with a large effect size (0.7). How did this mild intervention outperform cognitive behavioral therapy with such a large effect?

The secret may lie in the 2-year duration. That is how long it took Leonard Cohen’s mood to lift “by imperceptible degrees” while he studied meditation in Mumbai. Other behavior changes, like exercise and social rhythm therapy, also show more robust effects when allowed to build for 6 to 12 months. The challenge is to help patients stay motivated through those imperceptible degrees of progress.

I am sorry you did not feel well, I am hoping with time you will heal from your falls.
I am glad that you road the bike.
happy fall, perhaps you could sit out on your deck is there room for a chair? and maybe a small table so you could sip some tea and read one of your books. The fresh air would do you good. It may still be too hot to do that.

the terrace is very large. beneath it is somebody's good sized bedroom. i used to do so much gardening. i even grew tomatoes, had a lot of rose bushes, geraniums and flowers. maybe now that the weather seems to cooler, i might go out and keep my kitties in. now i am really afraid of falling big time. robert is coming over to measure the bathtub and look at sliding shower bench. i still haven't gone into the bath tub.
my upper left side still hurts especially when i cough, i think it is just another bad bruise but my ribs feel fine.
i will do some biking today. yesterday i listened to a lot of leonard cohen and read..
you haven't hardly written. please tell us what is happening in your life.

Your terrace sounds as if it could be very pretty and relaxing. Don't forget that Vit D.

I enjoyed very much reading what you wrote about Leonard Cohen. I didn't know that. Always a fan.

Thankyou both. bizi, thanks for asking. They're hoping to find nothing which means the treatments continue to work. Crossing fingers. MRI done now. I have to have sedation and it was a long wait today. Luckily I have my daughter and she stayed with me. I have had them every 3 months for over 2 years. I probably worded my post incorrectly by saying "3 monthly". I meant 1 every 3 months.

Then CT every 3 months as well and PET scan at this time is once per year. I had 5 brain tumours (mets) and had them removed and they are on the lookout for their return. Other mets in axilla, lung, mediastinum (chest bone area lymph nodes) all gone too and never came back so it's CT for them every 3 months for 2 years and then if all good, then it'll be every 6 months.

I do worry a lot about the contrasts but particularly the radiation from the CT a lot. However, it has to be done. In the beginning when they found the brain mets, I had 2. It was organized for me to do the travel to the capital over 1000 miles away and by the time I got there they had multiplied to 5, so that was from 2 to 5 in 2 weeks. I'll have results by midday tmro. I'm optimistic.

Grow some Jasmine in with the other herbs as it's very calming. I use Jasmine oil for stress/anxiety. Didn't work today, so I needed some IV Midazolam LOL. That helped. It's the only time I ever feel a little relaxed.

btw bizi "Feel the fear and do it anyway". That's a book I own.

i can't. i can't carry the dirt. i am having such a hard time since the latest fall walking. all i can do is read, pet the kitties and watch tv. i wake up every morning with a stomach ache.
