Default Surgery Scheduled - UGH

My surgery on my rotator cuff is scheduled for Oct. 10th, the day before my birthday.....crap.

It's an outpatient procedure, but the pain and recovery is going to be tough.

It takes approx. 6 months for it to completely heal. I healed much more quickly with my c-spine surgery. I will have PT afterwards and all that.

Not looking forward to it at all, but I kind of knew it was coming. Had trouble sleeping last night, thinking about it.

Thank God my mom is doing well. She even took a shower all by herself yesterday.

As far as having PT come to the house, you have to be housebound for that, I have no idea when I will be able to drive.

People are telling me that they keep you pretty drugged up afterwards for the pain. I have to switch 2 of her appt's appt's around, because they are on the 17th and I won't be able to take her.

I see the Surgeon on the 8th for the final talk and things.

The surgery is 12:30pm, I wish it was earlier, I am sure I will have to be there earlier anyway. No morning coffee, UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

My problem now is how to get there and home. Since I will be put under, I can't drive.

My head is spinning......just venting.

Anyone had this type of surgery?????????????????? Let me know please.

Hugs, Nikko

Hi, Nikko,

Sending lots of hugs.

It sure sounds like this surgery is taking some planning and worrying.

Your surgeon will take good care of you.

Oh Nikko, I am so sorry to hear you need surgery, you will hurt for awhile I'm sure, but it hopefully will be worth it in the end. I don't have any siggestions on how to get you to and from, I had my mom to take me when I had surgery done on a deviated septum back in 2000, so I don't have any ideas for you on that. But I agree with Mari, your surgeon will take good care of you.

Can you look at it as rotten problem solved? You have suffered so much with it and it didn't want to heal by itself. I had it but after a year it healed by itself. I couldn't do any lifting and I am certain that your taking care of your mother and all the housework has been so hard on your body.
Can you speak to a social worker and see if there is a way they can provide transport? I know money is tight and I don't know how much a cab would cost. You might also want to call medicare and see if they can suggest something.
With all the great pain killers they have, hopefully you will be pain free after the surgery. I would have that on top priority and tell them you are bipolar and pts and you can't tolerate pain...that it throws you into another cycle.
I wonder if you can get more help for your mother.
Hugs
Bobby

?????????????????? I guess they will know I am BP with the meds I take, what do you mean by pts?

I have a low tolerence for pain, so that is a priority for me, since I have been on heavy duty pain meds for chronic pain.

I just feel ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

post traumatic stress.....which I also have from my explosion and burns.....I am so sensitive to pain and I think it brings back physically all the pain I suffered. I had a much higher threshold for pain before the explosion. I haven't read any studies but I am just assuming we are far more susceptible to pain.
Hugs
Bobby
ps don't assume anything with doctors and state your case. DON'T BE BRAVE....
i JUST READ a study saying that pts patients were less susceptible to pain so maybe it was the kind of pain suffered. I didn't look up burn pain.

Bobby,

Burn pain is especially painful, it's a while other realm of pain, I only had a burn the size of a tennis ball on my stump from where the muffler was on my thigh, but it took ages to heal and it hurt, triggering phantom pains that were excruciating. I too have PTSD (that is usually how I have seen it written...) from the accident and I find now that I tolerate much more pain then I did before this experience. I think I am just more stoic about it and less prone to complaining. I went almost four years with Chronic pain from a neck injury in a car accident before it got so bad I couldn't lift my arms and had to ask for PM help. (Pain Management)

I know how hard it is living with pain, but also recognize that surgery is necessary sometimes. I had to have my leg surgically set after the accident and it was so hard to let them wheel me away and put me under. It was just terrible, the anxiety was tremendous, I understand it all too well Nikko, I hope that the surgery helps make the pain go away. I know it's hard to go through, but you can do this.

Hi Pamster
they say burn pain is the worse pain there is...I had twenty percent second degree burns....and landed in the burn unit. After I recovered, even if I bumped into something, the pain would radiate throughout my body. I was always athletic and was hard on my body. The radiation of pain was something else. Somebody told me it had to do with screwed up nerve endings.

That is what I have heard too, that it's about the nerve ending being damaged. I wish it wasn't so bad for you Bobby, I am lucky it was just a small part of my stump. It sounds like you went through serious pain with it. Does it still hurt like that? Radiating through your body if you bump the scars? I hope not.

Heart

((((((Nikko)))))),

Well That

At least you should be on your way to healing for Christmas and New Years. Just think, maybe you'll start the New Year with no pain which will set the direction for the entire year . At least, if nothing else, you'll go into the New Year knowing that the repairs have already been done and you won't have that to 'look forward to' for next year

I'm glad to hear that your Mom's doing better. Shower?? That's much better than she's been doing for a long time, isn't it??

Since there's still some time before the date, you might be able to arrange to use the local paratransit or find a neighbor or someone from your local church or even ask one of the workers at your apartment complex (I've done that in a pinch). You want to see if you can get something cheaper than a cab

BIG HUGS (and love).
