Default Blood type O more likely to have mood disorders

Hi,
Apparently people with blood type O have low MAO platelet activity. This tends to show up in people with mood disorders. People with blood type O make up about 45% percent of the US population so this is not true of everyone with blood type O.

I wish I could figure out how to research this in the scientific journals.

Quote:
Type I bipolar patients in Budapest were reported to have type O blood more often and types A and B blood less often than Type II bipolar patients.
PMID: 12509206 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Quote:
The ABO blood group system and platelet monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity are known to be two genetic markers for affective disorder.

In researching a connection between the two markers, one study found that the platelet MAO activity of subjects with blood type O was significantly lower than that of subjects with other blood types, criminal behaviour, alcoholism, antisocial personality and impulsivity.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...t_uids=6573841
Quote:
The association between the two genetic markers of affective disorders, ABO blood group system and platelet MAO (monoamine oxidase) activity was studied in 70 healthy young males. The platelet MAO activity of subjects with blood type O was significantly lower than that of subjects with blood type A and with blood types A + B AB + B together.

This finding could constitute a "bridge" between the two genetic approaches to affective disorders.

I'm confused, but it looks like something interesting that could help us get good meds someday.
I have blood type O.

I *KNEW* there was a deep-down reason why I liked you guys, Mari+Nikko -- maybe we're blood sisters back in time somewhere

Does this mean mean "I've got TONS of people"

I am going to say I believe there is something to this. I read the 'Eat Right 4 Your Type' book and also purchased the Ailments book to go with it. I looked up Bi-Polar and a small graph proved type O was predominant for that as well as having issues with the brain and dopamine levels. Go to the main website, just search Blood Type Diet and there is an overview of type O and even there he briefly explains the science behind Type O's being predisposed to the 'fight or flight' response and references to brain chemicals.
