Default I hurt my jaw. 'Trying not to feel stupid.

Hi,
A week or two ago hubby told me that he had jaw pain.

It turns out that likely his ocd-type habits caused the jaw to get tired: Eating pomegranates (he chews the seeds and swallows all of the seed materials), pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and other nuts. I told him to take a break from those foods and he is feeling better now.

So, like a moron, two or three days ago I asked him how he felt and demonstrated for him something by moving my jaw in a way that stressed it. I injured something.
Now I cannot yawn. I cannot open my mouth very wide. This effects laughing and yelling too. And certain foods. I have to eat by barely opening my mouth. Oww.

I never thought that I would miss being able to open my mouth wide in a nice big yawn.

Help Oh Mari !

Oh, please go to ER or an Urgent Care Facility !!!

I'm so sorry, i had the opposite with EPS - yawns that shook my whole body, and frequent. and trouble swallowing. so i can sorta relate.

but this sounds very disturbing - it is impeding your movement terribly... please get help !

( gosh, it's funny, we are giving each other the same advice... rofl )

anyway i'm serious about the jaw. if it doesn't feel better within 24 hours at least, go in.

Lightbulb get an xray...

This happened to me when I had my "hidden" dying nerve in a back tooth.
The dentist had damaged the pulp by accident when he filled it last. It festered for a long time (I did not feel it) and drained into that sinus. I had several sinus infections, but no swelling in the tooth or gum itself.

One day the muscles on that side spasmed up and dislocated my jaw.
X-rays showed almost a 1/4 inch deviation.
I went to a specialist in TMJ and he evaluated the whole thing and put me on
muscle relaxants. After two weeks I could open my mouth (it was locked shut 3/4 of the way).

Muscle spasms can do this --yours might be due to other reasons.
Eventually I had the tooth root canaled and crowned. It took a LONG time isolating the cause.

YIKES....get checked out asap...until then eat soft foods and/or soup.

I have TMJ and when it pop's out of it's socket, it's painful and not much I can do except rest my jaw, eat what I mentioned and sometimes muscle relaxants help.

Good Luck, Hugs, Nikko

I'm doing better -- still careful about opening my mouth wide to brush teeth or yawn. But I can open it wider now than I could a day or two ago.

The last time I went through something similar with my jaw, I went to physical therapy for about 2-3 weeks. Then a hurricane came and interrupted life here for a good month or two and I never got back. I remember that the therapist sent me a Christmas card that year.
