I don't know what your financial sitch is but if you're getting Medicare, I'm assuming you're not up there with people who get $400 haircuts and daily massages I have MassHealth in addition to Medicare. MassHealth is insurance in my state run by Medicaid (which is a combo Federal-state agency) for us wealthy folks. My co-pays are low-low. I don't pay my Medicare Part B monthly payments, they pick it up. I don't have a lot of expensive drugs, but ...

You're got some options:
- Ask the doctor for something that's in the formulary. The co-payment is extremely high probably because someone at the doctor's office didn't fill out the appropriate paperwork.
- Ask the doctor for a generic equivalent.
- Apply for Medicaid. I don't know what state you're in. Some are good, some are bad. Some states will give you some form of Mediciad coverage to pick up the slack when you're on Medicare. Doesn't hurt to ask.
- Ask the doctor for physician's samples.
- Ask the doctor for the form that you submit to the manufacturer of the drug. You should be able to get it for either free or for lower cost.

I wish we had a government that didn't allow drug manufacturers and oil companies to make record/OBSCENE profits on the backs of the little guys. Bet a million you don't see anyone in the government making a co-pay like that Especially the ones with the $400 haircuts.

you might also try a patient assistance program. The doctors' office where I work has one in place, as does our local hospital. Many people participate in patient assistance programs through the drug company. Do an online search for the manufacturer and then contact them about their program.

I went online to Soc Sec Gov......and applied for assistance with Medicare Part D. I filled out the info.

I got a letter back saying I was eligible. It said not to chose a plan, only if I wanted to, but they would. This month my Humana amount I pay was put back in my account.
It stated I would not have to pay for Med D, and no co-pays. I am waiting for the next letter from them, which said will be in 30 days or something.

Strange - I went to pick up my Nasonex which is usually 60.00 and it was only 5.00. So, I don't know if Medicare is doing something already or not.

It's worth going to the SS site and filling out the info online and sending it back online. It all depends on what you get per month financially.

I agree with Mari, most Dr's will give you samples, or change the medication. Does it come in generic?

Barbara, I am just getting ready to go to work but I wanted to mention something.
This month you had no alimony, you had none half of last month.
I would as said fill out on the soc sec site the information...if you can qualify then for this month it would cover the deductable, and fill the meds, the copay on many are only $5 and $2 from the one De had.

Also the plan D you have, may have a option for no deductable, right now the copays may be higher though..
Also other Plan D options can be changed in the open period, I think is now.

De had AARP, the plan she had covered Brand !!!!!
But there were many options.

Why no post on the soc sec forum and see what the otion thoughts are there.
But if you change your plan it will take about 48 hours I think...
But go back to welfare with the reduc in income.
Talk later, but really that is an excellant idea to contact the soc sec, or call them even!

My friend Bob has Aarp as second part, he was on a expensive med. he
has Advantra Rx.that covers Medicare rx in most cases. When one was not
covered he went to his Dr. explained it to Dr. that it was just to much.
The Dr. not office help,nurse the Dr. picked up the phone called his
insurance and now the med. is covered,some Drs. want to make sure
there patients don't suffer or do without. I would try what Mre d suggests
as well...I find Aarp helps answer questions better then Medicare. Bob
was billed a very Hi bill from a Dr. we never heard of in a town 200 hundred
miles away. He called they were getting him upset,I have power of attory
got on the phone..She yelled yes I've heard that before he doesn't want
to pay the bill. We finely had to call that Dr. long distance,the nurse said
oh my we put the wrong code ,our paitient has the same last name.
I'm addind this on so people read there bills,this was a 3000 dollars billl
and Medicare did everything but call Bob a lyer..I hope I heip someone.
Oh I had the nurse send us a letter and e-mail to make sure the code
was corrected..Than we wonder why we gwt nervous. Good luck to all. Sue
