Lightbulb Meds Effect Sex Desire????????????

Here's a ?

What meds do you think can or do decrease your sex drive? Or do some meds increase your sex drive?

I know AD's are supposed to depress the desire.

Need to know, figure this out with my meds and all.

Default SSRIs & Narcotics

Dear Nikko,

The SSRIs, specifically, among the antidepressants, affect all three aspects of sex: attraction, arousal, and climax. At their worst, you might as well be neuter.

Narcotics kill arousal. I've often wondered what rock stars did with their groupies after they start using heroin.

Cordially,

Lightbulb On the other side...

of this question are the dopamine AGONISTS...Mirapex and Requip.

This family of drugs may cause sexual addictions! This is something to
think about...since they are being looked at for Bipolar.

Isn't dopamine in a AD? Or is that seratonin?

I take, Cymbalta, Klonapin, Trazadone and Lamictal.

I have decreased sexual desire.

Do you think it is the Cymbalta then?

Thanks, Nikko

Spooky.
I was just reading something about this yesterday. Actually, it was vitamins and such to help you "in the mood".
They said vitamins A,B,C,E, and the mineral zinc can help a lot.

And yes, my understanding is anti-depressants can kill your sex drive. As well as being overweight and your self esteem.

Thanks, I didn't know about the vitamins, I did know Cymbalta helps with physical pain.

I am not over weight, I am 127 and 5-7 and losing a few pounds, which I think is stress, and actually my self esteem is much better, then a few years ago.

I'm just in a total bind now with the Cymbalta if you read my other threads.

Thanks again, Nikko

Mad Cymbalta and Sex Drive

Dear Nikko,

Some years ago I transitioned from Paxil to Cymbalta because I had heard that Cymbalta didn't have such adverse sexual side effects as Paxil. I found this to be true at normal dosage levels, (i.e. 60 mg.). However, Cymbalta was ineffective against depression at anything less than 120 mg., at which level it was worse than Paxil. Eventually, I switched to Lexapro at normal dosage levels, (10 mg.), which is effective against depression with greatly reduced sexual side effects.

Cymbalta raises the levels of serotonin and norepinephine in your brain. Notwithstanding this, it still annihilates the sexual you.

By the way, "Strattera", a med that doctors are eager to prescribe to you if you need a central nervous system stimulant for ADD because it is NOT an amphetamine nor a Controlled Drug has more warning about potential sexual side effects than any med I have ever seen.

Cordially,
