Sorry about the bandwidth problem. I have to wait till next month before I can reset it according to the email they send to me.

Mari, I am doing fine most of the time. I still have bleak days but they are getting fewer and father apart.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant you were trying to quit. But wow it's been 2 yrs Good for you. You are strong.

Those Nicotrol inhalers do the trick. I should try again, I have been smoking like a chimney.

I know there is never a good timet to quit. I was forced because they wouldnt' do my cervical spine surgery until I was smoke free a few yrs ago.

But, of course I went back to it. I had to get the N. inhalers as a prescription back when I quit, I wonder if you still need to do that or they sell them over the counter now. Have to check.

My smokes again too, after all she went through, but not as much as I do.
Still she shouldn't be smoking at all, and she had quit for so long, since being in and out of the hospital this year and most of last year.

Oh well, can't force her. I will check out those quit smoking sites too.

It may be a few wks before I even try, I need this court situation to be over, a cigarette seems to help me calm down a bit, maybe thats all in my head.

Hugs, Nikko

hi befuddled
You quit 2 years ago ...that is fantastic and have not restarted since all of this added stress..is incredible!
very proud of you....for all of what you are doing and going thru
I jsut can;'t imagine how hard this is to go thru.
Nikko sweetie...please don't even think of quiting until all of this is behind you.
Yes smokiing helps to calm you and that is why you should continue to smoke.
I guess I never thought I would say that but what ever helps right now is what is important.
If you are a coffee drinker...I would however suggest that you not drink as much as it is a stimulant to most folks.
(((((HUGS)))))
hugs to you.

Hi Nikko and Bizi,

Actually when you smoke a person is in more a of a state of nerves than one who does not smoke. As soon as you put out a cigarette your body is gearing up to put you in a state of withdrawl, thus causing you to be tense and be nervous until you smoke that next cigarette to calm you down. Granted, it is true that in the beginning of a quit it would be hard to also go through a real stressful situation on top of quitting. Learning deep breathing techniques calms one down in place of the cigarette. When one smokes, it is also the deep breathing they mimick when puffing on a cigarette that calms them down.

I have only ever lit a cigarette twice in my life and the 2nd time was April of '05. I lit it for my friend. It made me very dizzy, as did the first time. For someone who has been smoking a long time, I can see how the withdrawal and reward can be reversed; kind of like in people who drink, they actually get hyped UP from alcohol, whereas those who generally don't, get a sedative effect from it.
