Yes I think this is a major issue...not a minor one.

You have every right to feel angry.
Try to think of another situation that you could put before him to try to get him to be in your shoes as an example...to turn the tables so to speak.
For example: When this hubby and I were engaged to be married and the subject of changing my last name to his came up...I said I was going to keep mine. He got upset....I put it back on him and said ...do you want to change your last name to mine?
he said no...I said "understand now"...he said yes.
He was not respecting your wishes.
