Default Actress Glenn Close...

talks about the need to erase the stigma of mental illness. She researched serious psychiatric conditions to prepare herself for the movie" Fatal Attraction". She has done some volunteer work for the New York City Fountain House-cooking meals, arranging flowers with members, and working the phones to help find places to stay for those who are on the streets.

Well thank you Glenn Close!!! Brokenfriend

Thanks for posting this Brokenfriend. It is true we need to lose the stigmas. It's really rude and wrong and discriminatory. It should stop and hopefully will in my lifetime.

That is good to have a celebrity doing that.

I agree. It's the 21st century, and it's time that it should be clarified what emotional, and mental issues are,and what they are not. This stigma needs to be removed. We are not in the dark ages anymore, and there needs to be a removal of the shame that use to come on a sufferer of Mental health issues. We didn't chose this affliction, and the people who are reading this know how true it is. I could have been born with a physical problem, but it was a mental health problem that I've suffered with all of my life. Oh the misunderstandings.

Our scientists, and medical researchers need to work on this harder. In this age of information, all people can reed the truth about biochemical problems, and heredity concerning the people with mental health issues. We did not chose this,as people with cancer didn't chose that.

It's time for them to show us dignity on TV programs, and to teach students in school about us,and for the government to provide legislation to help those of us with mental health issues. BF

Thank you Mari. We all need to find out how much research is actually being done for mental health problems. We need to find out if they are aggressively working on the problem. Thank you. BF

Post Glenn Close

Glenn Close graduated from my college, William and Mary, in 1974. Would love to have her read my account of our struggles with our son Billy who has ADHD and bipolar disorder.

You might now my Brother in Law. He graduated from William and Mary in the early 70's. My niece is going there now. My Grandfather on the other side of the family graduated from William and Mary in the early 1900's. I'm just bragging a little. Oh me. Brokenfriend

Thank God for all the people who want to acknowledge the issue of mental health, and to help us,and to remove the shame, and stigma of it. These illnesses are just as unfortunate as all physical illnesses, and human suffering.

Researchers need to be more aggressive in their research to cure mental illnesses,as they are in curing physical illnesses.

I hope people out in the public are giving to Mental Health research,as much as they are giving to Physical illnesses research.

I hope that in the new year the public is educated, and human resources are brought out to help the people with mental health issues, and that the mentally ill are not scoffed at,shamed,or hated anymore. There needs to be a awareness, and education into these issues. We are not in the dark ages. We are in the ages of discovery.

It is something that can be done. It must be done. It affects more people then are known.

This is my hope this Christmas eve.

If Glenn Close receives this forum post, I thank you so much for your efforts in helping the people with mental health issues. Brokenfriend

Dear Friend,
There should be a way to write to Glenn Close.

One time I wrote to an actress C/O the producers of her show. And another time I wrote to the writers of a soap opera because I was disturbed by one of the plot lines. This was years ago before we had email. One time my brother wrote to a writer C/O of her publisher of a book.
He and I got letters back each time. My brother even got back a personal note because he has asked for something specific.

Is Glenn Close in a show or movie now? I could help you track down her contact info.
Doing a quickie google search got me nothing tonight. But maybe you have more info on her than I do. I'll think about it and try again tomorrow.

Mari
