Lightbulb that would have to be some potato!

A very large baked potato could go up to 600mg for potassium...
can you put the link where you saw that 1600mg figure up?

Here is one entry on that nutrition site:
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/v...roducts/2554/2
238mg for 2oz.

Look at the serving sizes!

One of the highest in whole foods is cantaloupe.

3oz of unsalted almonds have 270mg of magnesium.

Most people do not eat enough whole foods enough to get magnesium each day.
Eating wholesome does help.

As far as the QT timing goes, I think the doctor has to know to look for it. Who knows what they look for?

True MrsD. Thanks so much for all you've posted on this today, and you too Mari! I feel a little better armed for when I bring it up with my dr.

This is one way to bring it up with your doctor:

Copy/print off the Website information I gave you.

Then when you go to the doctor, say:
I have just found out that the family of drugs I have to use
will affect the QT segment and I would like an EKG to rule out that I have a genetic tendency to this.

This site has 3 reference to QT segment:
http://www.fda.gov/Cder/foi/label/20...bilify_lbl.pdf

Give your doctor the handouts. Believe it or not, some do NOT know this information or how the drugs work.
Also the sales reps for Abilify may NOT tell the doctors the whole story...like Merck instructed its reps concerning Vioxx. Doctors rely on the drug reps and when they conceal or lie... the patient suffers in the end.

This is why the FDA took Seldane, Hismanal and Propulsid off the market. Doctors were sent warning letters, and even after that continued to place patients in harms way.
Propulsid was a very valuable drug for GI motility issues, but HAD to be removed because it was used in patients with hypertension who were also on diuretics. Doctors ignored the warnings and now Propulsid is gone.

Thanks MrsD, I will print off the information and see if I can get in to see my dr sooner rather then later so that i can find out if this affects me personally.

Default Oh gosh!

I did a side affect Google search on Quetiapine(Seroquel). I searched for the QT affect with Seroquel, and I saw reports from about four years ago that It doesn't have a QT affect problem.

I am gaining weight, and I don't feel like moving around, but it has helped with the rapid thought problem. I do feel more calm, but I don't feel like doing anything. This is not me. I don't feel like shopping, going outside,or anything. This may be depression. I've gained about twenty five pounds.Sometimes it goes down five pounds.

I read a number of reports that a overdose of Seroquel can cause the QT heart rhythm problem. Then I came across a new report that Seroquel can cause the QT problem.

I also read the Quetiapine(Seroquel) can cause liver problems, cataracs, Diabetes, and now sudden heart failure.

I'm sick right now with some virus that's going around.

OK,now my heart is scared. It's just one thing after another. I sometimes experience late night diarrhea that is seroquel related I believe. Then I wait for this SSD hearing.

Somebody called me this afternoon, and worried me about something. My thoughts started to topple, and spine out of control for hours. Thats why I don't want to be around people right now. When I listen to people talk to me,and they get dramatic,or startle me with exaggerated remarks,or talk down to me,it upsets me. I don't know. BF

Dear Friend,

I can be thrown off mood easily by un-helpful people too.
I hope that you can limit contact with these folks.

Seroquel seems to cause weight gain in lots of people. Some are able to fight it off but it seems to be quite a battle.
One of the tricks I read is to take it a few minutes before bed and go right to bed/sleep before the eating impulse kicks in. I don't know if it would work with you but I put it here in case you have not tried it yet.

Regarding heart issues. As Mrs. D noted, make sure you get enough potassium and magnesium and ask the doc to get you an EKG specifially to check for issues related to the med QT effect. An EKG can be done in the office and I think that the last time I had one I did not even get charged beyond the office visit.
These pdocs are supposed to follow through when they put us on meds with known warnings. And when they neglect to do so, we can remind / educate them.
It helps other patients too that we point out stuff to our pdocs.
(My pdocs have learned from me over the years )

Mari
