Question MRI on head cortical sulcal prominence, mood disorder

Hi gang,
When I had my MRI done this came back on the report; Moderate Cortical Sulcal/ventrical Prominence.

so I googled. I found one study, a meta-analysis.
http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org/cgi/con...tract/52/9/735

Conclusions
This review documents the presence of ventricular enlargement and increased sulcal prominence in mood disorders. Patients with mood disorders have less ventricular enlargement than patients with schizophrenia, but this effect is small. These results reinforce previous suggestions of the nonspecificity of structural brain changes in schizophrenia and mood disorders.

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=3657406
Reliable documentation of the presence of these structural abnormalities in mood disorders would require a reassessment of their significance for both schizophrenia and mood disorders. In this article, we meta-analytically review the literature on ventricular enlargement and cortical sulcal prominence in patients with mood disorders compared with controls and patients with schizophrenia.

http://books.google.com/books?id=rnr...um=7&ct=result

On one of the full text articles it mentions the enlargement affecting the Limbic System. Now there are links about this and vivid dreams because of the flight or fight reflex kicking in.

Which bring me to wonder, if this "doubtfull significance' of the report could relate my nxiety/panic disorder, and the realistic vivid dreams I have?
The Limbic system has something to do with stress and having vivd dreams.

Gosh it was just so weird that the symptoms and then this finding on the MRI???/

HI Di,
nice to see you.
what does your md say about the results?
the information about the limbic system is fascinating to say the least.
thanks for sharing.

Hi Beth, Good to see your puter is back online!

The PCP said "its nothing" but, before I read this. She also said, the dreams are stress....I could have told her that. But, the pattern, change, so vivid and repeating just make me think something is related to it more then stress. I realize the prominence is noting as far as a tumor....but what about the correlation to mood disorders?

I am tempted to print and give it to her as she is an aggressive doctor, and this finding was not in an MRI a few years ago.

But, I am guilty of googling everything
Like the doc's that hate the internet for patients to know too much info.

Crazy hi Di

hey there Di,

i'm going to be looking up those links... the citations/issues you note ring bells... (then again maybe i'm a dog an my master Pavlov is coming to bring me food?) kidding.

anyway when i have less spaghetti in my head (speaking of food) and can focus better i will read.

i too am having dreaming issues.

i have been tapering zoloft. the dream crud started on the last notch down.

now dreams repetitive/persecutional/anxious ...
sound familiar?

as well as vivid.

Zoloft is used to help OCD as well as bipolar. i seem to recall mechanism is related regulation of limbic system activity. (should check new research may show other findings). obsessions involve repetition. repetitiousness... excessive limbic system activity.

iNteReStiING huh??

fyi - not case right now, but when i increase zoloft significantly, i often get very vivid dreams (but not typically bad, nor repetitive ones), and sometimes they are lucid. this only lasts about a week ... until steady state.

right now have overall weird situation, aside from the taper. other sx are likely situational. but the repetitiousness is only in sleep! wonder why. ok. well... v. interesting post yours. thank. you.

will look into that.

Di,

It is interesting to read but most of it is over my head. Good for you though for wanting to pursue it.

Heart

Thanks BF,
I thought it was amazing that when I googled the terms of the prominent structure/ventrical it related a link to mood disorder.
That was an unexpected find.
When I see the neuro next month I am going to ask about it. I am having increased problems f double vision, verticle, not side by side.

Hi Waves,
I had the samething with meds on Paxil and prozac, Effexor when tapering off the lightheadedness went on for 6 months.
The Lexapro I had started at 10 mg and it was insomnia real severe and also loss of appatite. When I titered up from 5 mg every other day, then worked up to 20 mg. My maintance dose.
