Default Going to Social Security today

to see if I can collect surviorship benefits on my ex spouse. This means a lot to me and I am nervous. I'm not sure how long it will take to know if I am eligible though. Like whether or not I need to wait for an approval letter.

Thanks you two.

The lady at social security said I do not qualify and I debated the issue. She told me after awhile she would look it up and then said she would file a claim but I would get a rejection letter. I told her to please file the claim. I do not understand her reasoning when everything I read points to me being eligible. I went home and looked it up under Title II which is what she used to file it under. It looks rather complicated on that page so I will go back and read it again.

I hope you get it Barbara, keep the faith. You can always appeal their decision too if they reject the claim.

Barb, there are so many rules where this is concerned. I know one of them has to do with the length of the marriage. They may allow some that are under the 10 yrs, but ones that are just a few years get turned down.

Dear Befuddled,
It is good to follow up on these things and go through the steps even if the results are not what we want -- at least you will know.
You are great to deal with these bureaucracies. I have little patience for them and put off dealing with important stuff for years.

Thank you Mari,

I normally do not do well but what I applied for was so important to me I guess I stepped up to the plate in my favor hopefully.
