Thanks! Love it. I once had a dedicated library room in the house that we built. I miss it.

mrsD, what are the flowers in your sig.? Are they crocus?

Yes, they are crocus... I wonder where my line went? I bet I forgot to save it. I'll try again!

These are species crocus, up a bit earlier than the fancier
hybrid types. Although it is cold but sunny today, I do have a few
species crocus coming up...just not quite this many yet.

This location is over the cat cemetery in our back quarter of the yard.
I have many spring flowers that thrive in this spot...where our past kitties rest.

Thankyou. I love them. Mine are white but a little differently shaped. I just googled images for crocus as you were typing I guess and was so surprised to see all the different varities and colours. They call me the crocus fairy around here. lol They only flower for a very short time in this climate but I like to divide the clumps and spread them around so there's a huge surprise the next season.

I love spring flowers. Where we are in an oak forest, we don't have much sun after early May. But the spring bulbs like it here, and they are joyful after a dreary winter.

I find fertilizer helps them spread faster.

The species type have smaller blooms, and make bigger clumps faster, than the taller bigger crocus that follow.

The white ones look splendid against the old oak leaves. We remove most of the leaves after the crocus bloom.

Sorry to have gone so off topic lol

We don't really have real seasons here. Not that I know what I'm missing, but I think I would love gardening in seasons. I've tried to grow hyacinth and daffodils but they didn't work in the garden. I get leaves but no flowers. Maybe this year I will try them in pots that I can move around. Experts suggest putting bulbs in the refrigerator for about 6 weeks here before placing in pots or garden. I will try that too.

p.s. I love having some white flowers in the garden. I love purple/lavender, lemon/yellow and white against all the green.

The bulbs need a high level of phosphate to make flowers.
Also if not enough sun, after bloom, there will not be flowers next season. I have this problem with some tulips, that are in semi-shaded spots.

But if the bulbs get enough sun on the leaves after bloom and still do not make a flower next season, it is because of low phosphate. You can use inorganic --if you can find it---since it is often hidden because of "bomb making" potential. I have found
the bone meal less helpful.

Our yard gets depleted by the old large trees, so I tend to fertilize more than most people. One year we had a service come to save an old oak...they had a power rod that went deep into the ground and they then shot high content fertilizer into the deeper soil. You should have seen what that did to our yard! It is still now after 5 yrs, still grooving along!

Interesting. Thanks.
I use a seaweed concentrate. Seasol. Maybe I don't use enough.

Default In reference to OP (though I love gardening as well, lol)

I disagree. That is the BEST type of porn for a book lover

Going to send that website to a few friends. They will LOVE it.
