Cool Smirk Guitarists?

With the loss of BB King, another Great guitarist joins a fantastic Band in the Afterlife, but who are the best of all time? My list:

1. Hendrix
2. Blackmore.
3. Clapton.
4. B.B. King.
5. Gary Moore.

Three are gone, the other two are 70 this year. Where are the next Greats?

Dave.

Hey!
What about Carlos Santana?
As for the younger ones, there's Orianthi and I'm a big fan of Jesse Cook.

I was thinking about this the other day when I read your post Dave. I thought of a long list but didn't get to post. They included (some alive, some not so alive and in no order at all - a little like my brain this morning )Stevie Ray Vaughan. Ry Cooder. Rory Gallagher. John McLaughlin. Frank Zappa. Neil Young. Dave Gilmore. Muddy Waters. Bonnie Raitt. Yay a woman! etc etc.

Music has changed so much. It's not so much about the riff anymore. I do like a lot of various music these days but it's more background music to me.

I was reading about the most under rated guitarists and Daniel Johns was one of them - originally a teen from Silverchair. Great musician when he's well. Of course, I could listen to John Mayer play and sing all day too... delusions of grandeur and all.

Ditto to Lara on Stevie Ray Vaughn. Tragically lost too soon.
Eliot Lewis who currently plays with Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates fame, used to play with Tower of Power and Average White Band.
He lives in Connecticut, USA and we are fortunate that he loves to play in small clubs around here.

Lenny Kravitz, (was he mentioned?) plays lots of instruments.....pretty great on guitar.

Love y'all......good post Dave!

p.s. speaking of AWB....Alan Gorrie....

Cool Smirk

Ooh! Discussion, and things get interesting

Estreetfan,

Carlos Santana - a true Great, in my rotating Top 20. As for Orianthi and Jesse Cook, I watched the former perform Voodoo Chile Live, the latter Havana. Both are technically precise, but Jesse has passion in his playing. Orianthi didn't hit a wrong note, but they were too crystal clear, too clinical - and I watched a couple more performances. She has an unquestionable gift, maybe the Heart will follow.

Lara,

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Muddy and Neil Young came close - Top 20 or higher. Zappa holds a special place in my heart.

With all the manufactured dross around these days real Musicians are having a hard time making it Big. Where are the next Queen, Oasis, AC/DC?

Diandra,

Lenny Kravitz is another one who is up there. 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' is a Classic. I need to pass Judgement on the others mentioned another night, my eyes have gone.

Dave.

Lots of good choices here, most of which are on my playlists.

The only one who I have heard live is Blackmore.

When I was in Adelaide my partner bought me a ticket to a Deep Purple gig, which was awesome .

Cool Smirk

I saw Richie Blackmore live many times with Purple and Rainbow.

Here's controversy - on their best days, taking out his arrogance and swollen head, Blackmore tops Hendrix!

Dave.

Thumbs up

"Riding with the King" is a great album Dave. You and others would probably enjoy that. It's collaboration between B B King and EC.
I have every EC album made.

Another great one was with J J Cale that I just adore and called "The Road to Escondido" . Great music. I especially like "Ride the River" although I like them all really.

Ride the River

Not a great visual but it's the song.
