I love female vocalists with Tori Amos being a favorite.
That being said Regina is gaining ground. If you watch Orange is the New Black you will find her song at the open. This song though, wow have I related to it for over a year. 'We've done everything that we can' Edit- the empathy talked about, I feel it normally. It is a huge factor in my adoration of this song and worth an edit. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eQXq4yK6Ueo

I'll check her out.
I've always been on the other side of thing with a staunch preference for male vocalists. Notable exceptions are Bonnie Raitt, Chrissie Hynde, and Joni Mitchell. Lately, though, some of the newer female vocalists who have come on the seen I've just really taken to immediately...e.g. Florence Welch and Courtney Barnett. Lots of good music coming out right now! |

The majority of my collection is male vocalists. I like good voices, but powerful lyrics and changes in tone can grab me and suck me in.
Ed Ved (aka Eddie Vedder is my favorite. I think I mentioned it before, but in 2013 when they came to buffalo I was waffling on a ticket. I was already diagnosed pn, though it was just above the ankle at the time and my hands were only bad during a flare. my wife said, You need this. I was behind the stage with other single sitters. The fella next to me had to leave after 6 songs to go to work. The woman next to me was sitting there and her fiancé was a fee sections over. We bonded like the band of misfit toys. Pendulum-Lowlight- Sometimes to open. It was the first time I had heard Pendulum. It was off the new album. But the lyrics, they struck me like a super pn shock. It was moving in a spiritual way. I had drive now. " Understand what we don't know/ this may pass, this may last, this may grow. Easy come and easy go/easy left me a long time ago/I'm in the fire but I'm still cold/nothing works, works for me anymore." You can hear the first two on youtube. I'd link it but I warn you a screamer in the crowd was annoying. Right before the show started I said, All I feel is calm, a line from Lowlight, so I was very into it. The ending lyrics were moving. I was in. "I don't need the light/I'll find my way/what's wrong, what's real/your dream I see" It moves me. I was locked in. Ed Ved was imbibing hard, three or four bottles of wine were scattered across the stage, I think. The back is not a great view. Sometimes, well it kind of speaks of me. It is on my top 25 Pearl Jam songs of all time. "Seek my part/devote myself, my small self/like a book amongst the many on the shelf/Sometimes I know/sometimes I rise/sometimes I fall/sometimes I don't/sometimes I cringe/sometimes I live/sometimes I walk/sometimes I kneel/sometimes I speak of nothing at all/sometimes I reach to myself here God/myself here God/would you ever hear dear God." Well I got tangental. Sometimes I do. 😃 But a month later I started vegan, sliding weight off, doing what was in my power to change. Anyway, love Pearl Jam.

I've been going through an interesting musical phase. I haven't been listening my stalwart favorites much at all (some with origins in the 60s!), and have almost exclusively been listening to newer bands.
It's funny, though, when my soul needs soothing, I always turn to those older bands/singers...they're the ones who touch me deeply. |
