I put this under books, because it is my first true love in story telling. Movies, great. TV, can be great. And so on.
But books, they can captivate, but there are really only so many stories, it is all in how you tell them. Last nights episode of Doctor Who and its two part cliff hanger really has me hung up on the concept of the limitations of presentation- how many different ways could they end a 2 part story other than the false/disturbing ending? I am flat out sick of it. I enjoyed True Blood on HBO for 2 seasons. I kept watching with my wife because she has watched so many of "my" shows and attended two Rush concerts (I know!) that I owed her that much. But that show is one of the greatest examples of destroying a concept of shock endings. By the last few seasons the resolution of the shock ending from the proceeding episode was as throw away as the buckets of fake blood and gore on that show. I better find a book example or I will have to change the prefix to tv... OK, I am changing the prefix to TV, but not updating the post- rebel! So, anyone have any thoughts on how lazy story telling has become? There are many great shows out there, but even ones like Orange is the New Black are doing obvious tropey stuff way too early, if you ask me. Not enough Crazy Eyes this last season, either.

Jon,
I recorded this episode and have just endured it. From the outset I felt I have read this storyline, or one very similar, before. I just cannot remember the Author. As for the cliffhanger ending, I see what you mean. Dave.
