I'm glad that where I live doesn't resemble the dystopia of Brave New World.

If it feels that way where you live, then that's really terrible.

Seems to be nothing more than Dr Joseph Mercola advertising a new book using Brave New World as a comparison. It's called "The Truth about Covid-19"

You know, if I read that stuff all the time I'd be out of my mind with fear and anxiety. There's so much fear mongering going on in the world, it would be better to help other people on a practical level than constantly try to fill their minds with doubt and misinformation. Edited later: I worded that badly, I actually mean that people in general should help other people, not aimed at you.

Lara: I didn't read the book 63 yrs ago but I know millions probably have read Huxley's works. And if that is only a U.S. thing then so it is. I would think Huxley is known of worldwide. And I'm not buying any books today at all but I like to be informed on so much and I'm not living in fear but like to reflect on history and what we are dealing with today.

Since I've been retired I've had time and the curiosity to learn so much history. Huxley was a large part of history and reading Wiki I learned a lot about him...especially the Pacifist side of him, which I am also.

There was a time, many years ago, when Mercola was a fair source for actual information related to alternative medicine.

Now it seems conspiracy theories reign supreme!

I do just want to clarify...my comment is not about Huxley or "Brave New World" - there is much that can be discussed related to it as a difficult but valuable piece of literature, as well as aspects in it's fictional narrative that may ring true in our modern world.

I was commenting on the selective use of that book to promote Dr Mercola's personal views related to COVID and his own new book on the subject.

Caroline,
I read the book back in the 70s when I began to devour everything available to me, but usually authors like Bradbury, Herbert and Asimov etc rather than Huxley. I also watched the likes of Soylent Green but don't see it as anything more than fiction I'm not the young idealist I was back then. I grew up and it hurt.

What exactly is a "US thing" anyway??? Edited to add: btw, Huxley as far as I know was English, so not sure what you mean with that.

The genre of the book is usually Science Fiction or Dystopian Fiction.

I clicked the first link thinking it would be a video about the book, unknowingly though, I was transported to Mercola's Covid pages. That was no accident in a search of history.

It's a shame that literature, good, bad or ugly, is sullied in such a way frankly.

Chemar, thanks. I know. I remember that time.

I have gotten so much excellent health info from Mercola and I trust him and many like him to bring us truths vs the lies were fed by mainstream..I don't care if he writes a book, 1000's do, check out amazon and all the health books. I don't buy his supplements but a couple friends do. His life is good health and if a book is in there, that is just fine.

Lara I guess I don't know what this means. That's where I put in the U.S. comment.

I'm glad that where I live doesn't resemble the dystopia of Brave New World.

I was under the impression that you must feel as if you can relate to the dystopian fiction of Brave New World.

I asked the question about what you meant about the "US thing" because you had written.

It's not the first time you've written that on a thread. I just don't know what it means. No big deal.

It's not the supplements or book I object to, it's the misinformation and fear mongering. It's become a whole new language. Sometimes I read all those conspiracy theories and it makes me feel physically ill. I do object to opening what could have been a benign url to a benign site about a BOOK and being sent to covid misinformation.
