Caroline,
I read the book back in the 70s when I began to devour everything available to me, but usually authors like Bradbury, Herbert and Asimov etc rather than Huxley. I also watched the likes of Soylent Green but don't see it as anything more than fiction I'm not the young idealist I was back then. I grew up and it hurt.

What exactly is a "US thing" anyway??? Edited to add: btw, Huxley as far as I know was English, so not sure what you mean with that.

The genre of the book is usually Science Fiction or Dystopian Fiction.

I clicked the first link thinking it would be a video about the book, unknowingly though, I was transported to Mercola's Covid pages. That was no accident in a search of history.

It's a shame that literature, good, bad or ugly, is sullied in such a way frankly.

Chemar, thanks. I know. I remember that time.

Lara I guess I don't know what this means. That's where I put in the U.S. comment.

I'm glad that where I live doesn't resemble the dystopia of Brave New World.

Your original post says

I was under the impression that you must feel as if you can relate to the dystopian fiction of Brave New World.

I asked the question about what you meant about the "US thing" because you had written.

Quote:
Lara: I didn't read the book 63 yrs ago but I know millions probably have read Huxley's works. And if that is only a U.S. thing then so it is. I would think Huxley is known of worldwide.
It's not the first time you've written that on a thread. I just don't know what it means. No big deal.

It's not the supplements or book I object to, it's the misinformation and fear mongering. It's become a whole new language. Sometimes I read all those conspiracy theories and it makes me feel physically ill. I do object to opening what could have been a benign url to a benign site about a BOOK and being sent to covid misinformation.

Our country of 300million+ is a mess and people are on the verge of great disaster. Some are dying from suicides and depression is rampant, jobs lost, businesses closed, my vibrant town here in CA is a ghost town...so I know from where I speak...children not in schools, it's a major disaster.

I hope we can let this go and all can think for themselves.

It's not the verge of disaster, it is disaster. It is terrible. That's what I said in my first post.

It's shocking and terrible and I'm so blessed that it's not like that where I live. Why can't I say that?

I feel as if I'm beating my head against a brick wall. Then you always just shut it down and say "we can let this go". Talk about it.

When someone starts a topic they should expect to have responses, whether they agree with them or not. As long as all are being respectful to one another.

Here in Florida, everything is open and pretending to be "business as usual" despite high caseloads & deaths. (thankfully coming down tho after Holiday "superspreader" gatherings)
I have had close friends in hospital with COVID, and know others who had it and still have bad lingering issues months later, and sadly know some who have lost the battle, despite conventional and alternative treatments.
I am actually very thankful my county has a mask mandate and other safety measures. Also thankful we finally have a Federal response that takes this Pandemic seriously.

Thanks Chemar.

Here wearing a mask is expected in public (I rightly get glared when I forget in the supermarket) and is compulsory on public transport.

There are lots of advisories (never approach another person in public closer than about 3 metres or so.

Lara, and I was referring to People being on the verge of disaster and especially the poor and truly we've expressed our thoughts and your country has a population of some 25Million and CA alone has 40Million or so. so the larger the population the larger the issues. But I and many believe so much mismanagement in our state.
