You may know of this site already but besides IMDB, a place I like to glance at reviews and plotlines is www.rottentomatoes.com. While I might not always agree with their "tomatometer", at least it gives some point of reference. :)

Thanks for the link, Beary.

I often go to Amazon.com to read up on movies. Another site that I like to go to when reading up on movies, is http://http://www...ne.com/. I usually do not agree, or put much stock in their conclusions, because it is a James Dobson/Focus on the Family site, and Dobson is much more conservative than I am. But, the rest of the movie write-up is usually helpful in allowing me to come up with my own opinion about whether I might enjoy the movie.

"Forget Paris" with Billy Crystal. Loved it.

Faith, the http://www.pluggedinonline.com/ url works -- I think this is what you're talking about?

I don't know if there's a specific genre that you and your daughter enjoy but a kind of overlooked movie that I thought was very profound is "The Quiet American" remake. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1118347-quiet_american/ I caught it in the theatres because there was basically nothing we wanted to see and I'm very glad I did.

On the complete other end of the spectrum, I thought the original "Harold and Kumar..." (White Castle) was hysterical!!!! :D I was really curious what the site you provided the link to would say and although they not surprisingly did really approve the movie, they actually had some interesting insight as to some (kind of ) redeeming elements. I then went on to look at their review of "Bowfinger". Very interesting site, if only to raise discussion points!

Beary --

Thanks for the suggestions. Not really into war movies ("The Quiet American") much.

And, I guess that I'm maybe not a cool enough mom to be very comfortable watching R movies "Harold and Kumar") with my daughter, even though, technically, she is an adult.

But, yeah. One of the things I like about the PluggedIn site is that, although their conclusions are often not very approving of the movies they have just reviewed, their reviews tend to give a fairly accurate portrayal of both "good" and "bad" elements.

Re: Harold and Kumar, I don't blame you, LOL.

I HATE war movies. I am sometimes ashamed to admit that I haven't seen some very classic ones. I don't think of "The Quiet American" as a war movie but it might not be your cup of tea regardless. It raised some very interesting questions for me.

I think that we're lucky to have so many good sites to go to help us decide what to see. :)

Watched P.S. I Love You tonight. DD had already seen it 4 x, which I didn't realize. She says it's her favorite movie. But, she was busy w/ friends, so I watched it w/ DH.

Good movie.

Videodetective is a great site for up and coming at both theater and on DVD. I use it to fill my Blockbuster Online Queue.

Just watched Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day and found it to be very entertaining.
