Default Dr. G Medical Examiner

When I stumbled onto this show, I was afraid it would be too gory for me, as I don't handle blood and guts at all.

But they pixel all that out. They leave you with the facts and it's really interesting, how Dr G figures out not just what killed people, but why. She totally rocks.

Too bad ya can't find docs that care as much while you're still breathing.

My fave episode was not about an autopsy, but where CPS took a couple's kids because one - an infant - had a fractured skull. The doc who examined him at the ER said he thought there were 2 injuries, and that he had been abused.

But really, because he was so young when he bumped his head, his soft skull had flexed and made two dents. People had seen the child when his mom came to work, he was not crying and his head looked fine (he didn't have much hair, so any bruises or swelling would have shown).

Mom handed him to a babysitter, and a little later, everyone heard him scream. Then is when she saw the area start to turn red and they took him to the ER to be checked out. He had probably just fallen out of his child carrier seat while in the baby sitter's care.

But CPS had removed the kids from them, citing abuse. It was heartbreaking. Dr G went over all the reports and records from the hospital. Her testimony at court helped them get their kids back.

Thumbs up

I agree, this is a great show. I can only take it in small doses however.

But Dr. G really maintains her humanity very well. I saw that show you detail too, about the child services trying to take the baby away! It was really a great show. I really felt for the parents! Now that we get Discovery ID, I usually catch at least one show on Sundays.

You know this past week there was a closeup of Dr. G working on one case, and her bookcase was in the background. I have the same old fashioned glasses with the chemical/poison names on them (in real gold)! Man, I bought those 35yrs ago! I was so surprised to see them sitting there! They came 4 to a set!

There was a show about two weeks ago, showing them wheeling in a new body for examination in a white body bag. There was a huge black bottle fly sitting on it, and the camera zoomed in on it... just a reminder that we cannot smell what the pictures show!

Lol... i recall her saying they were all covered up for one case wearing hair nets etc and still they knew they were going to smell after that. I think that body had been sitting somewhere decaying for some time. And she said how nobody wanted them around at lunch time.

The smell follows you.

That's bad stink when it clings to ya.

You really must be my soul sister! I have this one on a season pass with the TiVO, too. Love that show. DH already has his instructions that if I die without a definitive dx, then Dr. G must disect my brain to determine exactly what all those white spots are!

When I was in college, we had human gross anatomy, with cadavers and slides. It was pretty rough. No air conditioning either! (this was in the old med building, which no longer exists).

After class (which was 4hrs twice a week for lab and 4 1hr lectures/each week) I'd break for lunch and walk back to the dorm. NO ONE would stand near me! In fact you get used to the smell, but it lingers on you... your hair, shoes etc. None of us figured out to have a spare set of clothes, and we had no lockers even, until at least the 2nd week. We also had human bones in a box to take home and study. This rather freaked out my friends on my floor.
For those of you who are interested in this subject, there is a very very good book called "Stiff".
http://www.wwnorton.com/catalog/spring04/032482.htm
It has amazing droll humor and covers all the aspects of what happens to human remains. It is an amazing mixture of fact, humor and respect all rolled into one. I found it in a used bookstore. But it is still available in normal stores too.

I watched Dr. G yesterday... the 5 main causes of sudden death. It was really a good show!

Too funny! I say the same thing.

I do a halfway decent impersonation of her, and when dh is getting on my nerves I'll say something like, "Now this is odd... I have this man here with a half a cast iron frying pan buried in his head. Make a note of THAT, Arden. But still, I wanna start with the *Y* incision. Let's rule out natural causes before we jump to any conclusions..."

Mrs. D - I saw that show too, and that was really interesting. So cool, I told my Dr about it, and told him when it was on so he could watch. Now he's a Dr G nut, too.
