Red face Hi everyone.. new to this post

Hi everyone..

I am new to this post but not new to Neurotalk ( I post in another topic) but I wanted to say HI and introduce myself. I am Dolfinz and I am the caregiver to my Mother and Father in Florida , I live in Mass. and have been flying to and from Florida for the past 3 months(and prior when needed ) to tend to my Mother who had Lumbar Fusion Surgery in February and at the same time I am there I was usually putting my Dad into the Hospital for his Heart.. Whew......

Well after being home for a few weeks (in Mass.) I am headed back down to tend to Mom again. She has been home recouping for a while now doing very well and suddenly last Tuesday she developed problems (she has an Ileostomy 10 yr. ) she showed signs of Dehydration, nausea, vomiting ,ya know the whole 9 yards.

So they admitted her last Tuesday for Low Sodium and Low Electrolytes.. checked for a blockage (none) , then did an Endoscope and found an Esophageal Ulcer... so they gave antibiotics and sent her home on Easter Sunday Good right ?? Wrong.... she went back up today and they admitted her for Low Potassium. ??? I think it might be her Kidneys because she was on SO many MEDS after the Surgery that no one knew what the hell to give her !

She has many other problems like Arthritis, Osteo, Ileostomy. So to everyone that has Parents and you are the one taking care of them : How do you deal with it ? Especially if you are an only child and that is your only family other than a son ?? I never wanted these kinds of days to come and they are here !! I give Kudos for all those that do what I am doing now. And Neurotalk is awesome because there are SO many caring people here !!

Just wanted to share a bit of my story and hope everyone else who is dealing with problems get some relief soon !

Hugs and Blessings !!

Dolfinz

just wanted to send you a quick reply and hug.

also sending prayers for your mom.

i went through the same imbalances more than once with my mom. double check any OTC meds she might take. even Tums or Rolaids. the smallest side effects on any meds too. those get over looked. they add up. my mom had the problems for years until we did some sleuthing.

Hello dolfinz....

I to am a caregiver. We lost my MIL in November after a lengthy illness, and my husband and I are now looking after my FIL. He had dementia which is getting slowly worse. I lost my dad 3 years ago so i'm also keeping an eye out on my mother. fortunately my mom is in good health.
also i work in a retirement place with the assisted living and alzheimers residents LOL.... i love my job, but watching their health deteriorate truly sucks....

LIke curious said keep an eye out on your moms meds.... its amazing that even an antacid can cause major problems.... Welcome to NT....

I am actually a caregiver to my mother in law who has alzhimers. But MY mom has problems with low pottasium, and magnisum ( and I am sure I didn't spell either of those right ). They never have been able to find a cause for my Mom's low levels except for age and she has to take suppliments everyday and have her levels checked often.

I hope your Mom gets to doing better soon.
