Hi everyone. I'm new to this and as a caregiver, would appreciate friendship and support. How does everyone keep a (+) attitude, with all the changes involved that come with this diagnosis? I try to keep that expresiion in mind-adjust your sails as the winds change. Can anyone share some advice or wisdom or something?

Hello hippie,
I just read your older post and you mentioned caring for someone with a neuromuscular condition. I am not a caregiver as such, but I do know that you need to take care of yourself to stay strong physically and emotionally. I hope that you are able to get some time out to persue activities that you find calming and restorative. It's difficult at the moment because of the pandemic. Usually you could attend a group if you had one near by and just having that face to face support would be very helpful I would think. Do you have anyone else there who can take over if you need time away from home to walk or shop or do other things? I don't know where you live, but in my area, the family doctor could set up an appointment with a social worker if you needed direction regarding support or organizations that help with respite. I like the expression you used - adjust your sails as the winds change. That's probably the key for both the carer and the one you care about. take care of yourself. |
