Default A friend need's help

I moved from Brooklyn NY to about 70 miles east on Long Island. I have a good friend who I left behind but he calls me almost every day. He has an elderly mother in her 80's. She has trouble walking and other problems. She is being cared for by my friend and his sister who does not get along with him. Here's the problem:

They both work, he works for the city and he is on a requested limited duty status, he has off Thursdays & Fridays, of course without pay. He calls me and tells me this is impossable, she (the mom) takes an hour to get up/down the stairs, and an hour to eat. He hates being there and he fights with his sister right in front of her.

I have been telling him for over a year now to get an aid, but he say's they cant afford one. The mother tells them to put her in an assisted living home. I agree but again he say's they cant afford it. The mother owns the house she is living in, I suggested to my friend that she sell it and then she can afford the assisted living.

I clearly hear the frustration in my friend and he has become depressed, he constantly is saying "whats the use". He is on medication.

I am soooo at the end of my rope, but I can not abandon my friend what else can I tell him?

I think that you have provided great advice.

Sell the house and move her to the Assisted Living Facility that she has requested.

It is a "no-brainer".

She owns the house, so she should do what she wants.
