i started a new thread about this. hopefully we can all share some tips.


my son is 17. plays sports. so keeping his skin clean is real important. as it is to my 12 yr old daughter.

what has worked the best to keep their skin clear is washing with johnson and johnson baby soap. the liquid. just like for babies. it doesn't strip the skin of the natural oils. ph balanced. they will use a q-tip to dot on benzoyl peroxide cream. like clearisil if they notice a blackhead or pimple starting. neosporine works well to heal too.

it can take awhile to notice a difference. just have to keep at it. changing pillow cases every couple of days is a must too. both have the strydex pads in the lockers at school and gym bags to freshen up during the day.

they are also on a good vitamin routine. lots of water. neither drink sodas.

( they may sound like fanatics over this...but my daughter is trying to get into modeloing and sings already..my son has done 2 spots in the crowd on tv shows that got filmed here...plus as you know...the teenage thing....)

i had done all the rx stuff with my oldest. it seemed to make matters worse. plus the cost. we also tried proactive for 6 months. didn't phase it at all.

adding: when my son is at practise, a game or gym class, he puts sea breeze for sensitive skin on a damp towel to wipe the sweat. it really helps keep the bacteria down during all the activity.

Okay it just hijacked again, so here we go. He has no locker.
But a room, so maybe 2nd semester we can add a routine again.
7th grade he had one. Vitamins cause problems, but we will see
what else we can add to the many meds already.

Tyler's Dilantin causes acne among other problems. His face was breaking out pretty severely and I tried several OTC treatments to no avail. I purchased a Proactive kit at the mall and was amazed at the results. Within a week, his breakouts were healed and no new ones occurred. You have to use the products twice a day to maintain the skin condition, but it is worth the time and money to see his skin remain so clear. in contact sports like football... there is a growing concern about Staph
contagion from the foam that touches the cheeks...I had a young man many years ago with a resistant acne that was really staph from a contaminated
helmet.

Today it is mrsa and some football teams are having outbreaks.

It may not be simple acne, it may be staph, depending on circumstances.
This has grown as a health problem, considerably.

I read a tip years ago (I think it was from mrsdoubtfyre, as a matter of fact) about fish oil or flax seed oil possibly helping acne. My son was a sophomore in highschool, and the change within a month's time was dramatic. He passed the tip along to several friends.

I've also heard that zinc can be helpful.
